Niall's POV
As I walk through the crowded house one image keeps resurfacing in my mind.
I can't shake the picture of Morganne's face as it fell when she saw me and Sarah together.
She just looked so hurt and betrayed and all I wanted to do in that moment was rush to her side and wrap her in my arms, but I knew I couldn't.
I really need to stop this habit of always wanting to comfort her.
That may how it used to have been, but things are different now.
A lot of time has passed, and I can't be held accountable for it.
Still though, I couldn't help but feel the need to explain myself to her so I left her a note in in her house.
Thinking back to it, I realize Morganne still hasn't got in contact with me.
Wait, how could she?
Neither of us had phones when she lived here so she doesn't have my number.
I mentally face palm for just now coming to this realization.
Way to use your brain Niall, Ireland would be proud.
I'm about to give up on my search for the friends that I came with when I spot Zayn and Perrie across the room.
I quickly make my way to them through the mass of people.
When I get closer I notice a girl standing in front of them and talking with her back to me.
The long brown hair looks very familiar...
"Morganne, is that you?" I shout over the loud music.
The girl turns and Zayn and Perrie's eyes follow her.
Morganne takes in my appearance for a moment and then brings her eyes to meet mine.
"Hey." she says slowly.
"What are you doing here?" I ask her, confused.
"Actually I was just leaving." She answers panicking and pushes past me towards the back door.
"Wait!" I call after her and follow swiftly behind her.
She's only a few feet ahead of me but this place is packed which makes it a lot harder.
She reaches the door which is already open and is outside in seconds.
"Morganne hold up!" I call after her, "It's just me!"
Morganne's POV
"What are you doing here?" he asks me, his piercing blue eyes searching my face for an answer.
What am I doing here?
"Actually I was just leaving." I mumble and I shove by him and travel quickly to the exit I came in through, stuffing my cup in to some random strangers hands.
I get to the door and run out without a second thought, ignoring his calls.
The beach is way less crowded, just a few people around a small fire.
Shit.
He's definitely gonna catch up to me now.
Just as I thought, I feel a hand on my shoulder that spins me around.
It's quite dark outside but I an still see the confusion etched on to his face.
"Where are you going to that you need to be so quickly?"
"My house..." I trail off, not having a better answer.
"Ah, perfect me too, so we can walk there together." He chuckles.
Ah the perks of having Niall Horan as a neighbor.
Not.
My shoulders fall, defeated and giving in to him.
We begin walking down the shore that would take us back to our houses.
"So do you want to tell me why you didn't want to talk to me at the party?" He inquires.
"It's not that I didn't want to talk to you, I just wanted to leave in general." I tell him.
"Oh good so I was just a contributing factor." Niall says jokingly.
"Sure."
Not the sweetest thing I could say back to his joking gesture but I'm tired and really in no mood to play in to his remarks.
Noticing my tone, Niall quickly changes the subject.
"So you met Zayn and Perrie then yeh?"
I nod.
"Did you like them?"
I think about the kind girl that invited me in and the guy I talked to only for a minute.
" I guess I did, they seemed like a cute couple, showed it off quite a bit!" I laugh.
Niall joins in with my laughter, "I suppose they do tend to do that quite often!"
I smile.
"But you really can't blame them, I'd be constantly showing off if I was so happy with a girl too." He says.
His words surprise me.
If he was that happy?
"What about Sarah?"
"I mean I am happy with her, we just haven't really been dating so long so it's not super serious." He replies nonchalantly.
I can't help the surge of hope and excitement those words bring, even if it's wrong.
I'm saved by having to reply when we stop in front of my house.
"I uh would invite you in but it looks like my dad is home," I gesture to the lit rooms inside, "And I haven't seen him all day."
"It's fine." He says.
I can tell we're both grateful for that excuse, this has already been all kinds of awkward.
"Well I will see you around soon I guess." I say, unsure of how to part ways.
"Yeah," he smiles, "definitely."
I put my hand out to shake and he just looks at it quizzically.
Why did I just try to shake hands with him??!!
I pull it back immediately and mumble a sorry.
Oh god this is so awkward.
"Well bye Morganne." Niall says, ending the uncomfortable silence that had begun to form.
"Bye Niall, goodnight." and with that, I slip inside the now unlocked door and into the familiar surroundings of my home.
