Alyson POV
When I woke up I felt a bit groggy and my throat was dry. I looked around for water and when someone handed a cup to me I drunk the whole thing.
"Thank you," I said while handing the cup back to the person.
"Your welcome. How do you feel?"
"Fine I gue-" Wait. Who is that? I looked at the person and was somewhat surprised to see it was Mr. Alpha-to-be.
"What are you doing here?" I asked quietly.
"You're my mate. Why wouldn't I be here? I did carry you and you are in fact in my room."
I looked around not surprised that it was in it's original state when i was first here.
"A messy room. Why don't you have servants? Ya know to help around the house and take care of the little ones."
"Everyone around here is perfectly capable of picking up after themselves and looking after their own children. Besides my father doesn't believe in things like that."
"Things like what?"
"Slaves," he said as if it was simplest thing in the world.
"Who ever said that servants have to be slaves. My parents didn't force them to work. If they chose to work at the masion then it was their choice. No one made them work if they didn't want to. We didn't own them like vampires owned your people or my people or any other race in the supernatural world."
"What are you talking about? Werewolves never worked for vampires."
To say I was shocked is a complete understatement. How could he be so ignorant to the history of his people? Just when I was about to speak his father came in.
"Hello. How are you feeling?"
"Better," I answered which was a complete lie since my head was throbbing in pain.
He looked as if he didn't believe me and told his son to go get me some pain medication. When he left his father closed the door and then spoke.
"Alex informed me of your quest and you are definitely in luck. Your uncle and I have been friends for years and he is in fact the one who put in a good word for me to the High Council. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here at all."
After a minute of silence he shook his head as if to rid himself of good and bad memories.
He sighed and then smiled. "No use going over old writings when there is nothing you can do to change them after they have been printed."
I looked confused for a second before I realized he was quoting the writings of Jake Tidbit whose was quite famous in supporting the rights of women and the injustice done to people of a darker hue in every race be it supernatural or human. He used his elf name, which is Fëanáro Calaelenon, in his last book The Flights of Freedom. He never took on a wife since after only a month of courting his mate she died on the way back to her hometown in Ireland and he "could never love another" as quoted in his journal.
"My mother loved his writing and read a chapter of every one of his books to me each night."
"I tried to get Alex interested in it but he's more into cars and girls."
I nodded.
"Could you call my uncle over here so I could meet him?"
"Did it before I came here and he said he'd be here in the morning."
I smiled. "Great! Thank you."
He smiled and walked over to the nightstand. He picked up a book and handed it to me with the cover faced down.
"I think you'll enjoy this. Hopefully it'll bring you more good memories than bad. Goodnight."
After he left Mr. Alpha-to-be came back with two bottles of pain medication and a glass of water.
"Asprin or tylenol."
I rolled my eyes. "Tylenol."
He handed me the pills and I swallowed them down with the water.
"Thank you."
"Your welcome."
I turned the book to the front and felt the familiar sting of tears. It was the last book my mom read to me before she died. The Flights of Freedom. I turned the page to the chapter she left off on.
"Are you alright?"
I looked up to see Mr Alpha-to-be staring at me. I nodded and he asked if I was hungry. I said yeah and he left.
I started reading and didn't stop until sunrise.
