"Are you sure this is a good idea?" I ask hesitantly as Dick leads me down the tangled mess of hallways that made up Titans Tower.

This was the morning after the little chat me and Bird Boy had on the roof. He told me he wouldn't stop until I seen reason, and damn he wasnt kidding, Every time I tried to turn and leave, there he was with is very good argumentative case.

It took him all night, but it was only when he brought up Averi again that I realized I had to do this. He said I was making her better, and if making sure she stays on this path means I have to sink to the level of a hero, then I'm for it. Now Dick wants to introduce me to the team, something I am very hesitant about.

I didn't have to look over at him to know he was smirking "Are you telling me your nervous, Jason?" He asked in a teasing tone, knowing that would just piss me off.

I just roll my eyes, trying to act like I wasn't actually nervous. "Please, I'm only being smuggled into Titans tower by the leader and brought to the team of highly trained heroes with anger issues." Hell, I wasn't even helping myself feel better. "But I shouldn't worry, if it comes down to it, I'll just blame you."

Against all odds, he didn't even seem a bit nervous. "Just trust me, everything will be under control."

I scoff. Trust. I trusted Dick with everything, even my life, its the fact that the team I'm about to meet has strong trust issues with me. There was only one other that can actually stand being in a room with me, and frankly she was the only reason I was even here.

My stomach suddenly flipped with worry. "Have you told anyone about... you know..."

"You and Averi?" He finishes my thought, a jeering smile on his face. "Nope, your secret is still safe with me. I just hope she plans to keep up the act she has going, because I really do not need this piled on top of everything."

"What do you mean 'this'?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.

"Well I'm already going to have to deal with the team when they found out I brought a criminal to the tower." I couldn't tell if that was an insult or not. "I can't imagine what they would do to either of us if they also found out that said criminal was dating a teammate."

I come to a direct halt in the middle of the hallway. "We are not dating!" I snapped, harsher than I intended.

Dick wasn't moved, just entertained. "Whatever you say." He pauses for a second. "Would you ever want it to be that serious with her?"

My mouth stayed clamped shut while I debated on how to answer this. "It doesn't matter." I finally say. "She's still a Princess that comes from a family that would skin me alive if I ever came near her. Me... I'm nothing more than a filthy..."

I stopped mid sentence, biting my tongue so hard it began to bleed. I couldn't even bring myself to say it. "You are not a filthy street rat." I felt my brothers hand on my shoulder, a small gesture I haven't felt in a long time. "Believe me, Averi hasn't been in this great a mood in ages. This kind of thing doesn't just happen randomly for no reason."

I wanted to respond. I wanted to tell him everything about the struggle I have already had with myself about this, how I so badly wanted to be more with this girl who has actually kissed me before. It wouldn't make a difference though, I would still be a criminal blindly chasing after a Princess.

My thoughts were cut off by a loud yelping coming from down the hall, and as if it was on instinct, me and Dick both take off toward the last door in the row where the sounds were coming from. It led to what seemed to be a huge living room, and inside was the rest of the team, all except Raven and Starfire. Good, now I won't have such a big audience.
