2:21am
a sigh fell from kicki's lips as as let her phone slide back into the pocket of her jacket, her shoes echoing against the walls of a tall building as she made her way up the stairs, feeling every muscle in her body burn.
the previous day was too long and night was even longer. the only thing she craved was the softness of her bed and the peacefulness of sleep. soon enough, she reached the end of the staircase, fumbling around her bag in search for keys, quiet curses falling from her lips as she frowned, finally taking them out.
''keys again?''
kicki's eyes widened, gasping as she stumbled over something, actually someone, immediately lifting her hand up and clutching the keys tightly, the pointed end facing the person sitting on the floor. a breath of relief left her as she noticed a familiar messy hair and amused smile and she rolled her eyes, turning back to the door and unlocking it.
''yoongi.'' she greeted simply, adjusting the bag on her shoulder as she opened the door, glancing over at the boy who was still sitting on the floor calmly. ''it's almost 3am.''
he nodded with a shrug, a small emotionless smile still playing on his lips.
''she kicked you out again?''
''yeah.''
another sigh left her lips as she nudged his leg gently with her foot, nodding her head in the direction of her apartment, the door wide open already. ''come on.''
yoongi didn't fight against it, he learned that arguing would lead to nowhere and that he would, nevertheless, end up in kicki's living room. it was kind of an unspoken agreement now.
''is that alcohol i smell?'' he asked jokingly, looking over at kicki as she closed the door behind them and took off her jacket.
''i was at my friend's birthday party. people get wild.''
''and somehow you seem pretty sober?'' he raised an eyebrow, following after her as she went into the kitchen, his voice calm and too steady, signaling that he was trying to focus on something instead of letting his thoughts consume him.
''that's because i am, dumbass. i have class in the morning.'' she said with a small hum, handing him strawberry flavored frozen yogurt. ''but i couldn't really help being around alcohol or getting some spilled on me. now, come on.''
kicki shooed yoongi away as he chuckled, this time following after him as he walked into the small living room, getting comfortable on the couch and patting the spot next to him for her to sit. once they both got comfortable, kicki turned on the tv, just to have some background noise while a few moments of silence between the two passed.
''yeeun got mad because she thinks we don't communicate enough.'' yoongi spoke up before taking another spoonful of the yogurt and held up his hand before kicki could even speak up.
''she meant as in text messages and calls. supposedly, i'm not investing much in our relationship because we text 'less than 3 hours a day'. is that even a thing? do people actually care about that? i didn't know that was a big deal.''
''but you're at her place almost every day?'' kicki said slowly with a frown, turning her full attention on him.
''exactly.'' he muttered around a mouthful of yogurt, his hands raising helplessly. ''and even if i'm not with her at her place, i'm with her outside of it. but that's not enough.'' he said, hitting the bottom of yogurt container and mixing it around angrily.
kicki was silent for a moment, resting hear head in her palm with a small frown on her face. ''maybe she just needs you to reassure her that you're always there for her. maybe she feels like you forget about her as soon as she's out of your sight.''
yoongi's hand that was furiously mixing around the cup slowed down a bit, his eyebrows furrowed as he took another spoonful of yogurt.
''i mean.'' she continued, looking at him carefully. ''correct me if i'm wrong but you don't seem like a really open person.'' this time, kicki was the one who gave yoongi a pointed look as he opened his mouth to interrupt her. ''even now, as you spoke about the problem, you're not voicing how you feel and you're not showing much of it either.''
yoongi's eyes were now on kicki's and she had to stop and take a breath before continuing, looking at the painting on the wall instead.
''open up a bit to her. tell her you'll try but also tell her not to push you too much. maybe she just needs you to show a bit more emotion. sometimes you just have to voice your feelings, yoongi.''
a silence fell over them again and kicki choose to play with the sleeve of her sweater quietly, giving yoongi some time to think about what she said. kicki fully understood him. in some ways, she found it very difficult to just talk about what's bothering her or just truthfully talk about how she feels. but she was working on it and it's not as easy as it should be. so she knows what yoongi will have to face and she doesn't want him to go through it alone. that's probably the reason she's sitting with him at nearly 4am.
his voice pulled her out of her thoughts, a small ''you're right,'' making her realize that her gaze shifted back on him, her eyes following the lines and curves of his face.
but yoongi didn't seem to mind, he just pulled out his phone, his fingers running over the screen quickly as he bit on his bottom lip and spent a few moments just running his eyes over it and with one final tap, his eyes were back on kicki.
''i just sent yeeun a message.'' he said, already setting the empty container of yogurt on the table and getting up. ''i'm gonna try.'' he said with a nod as kicki got up as well, running a hand through her hair with a small smile.
there was a buzzing sound and yoongi's features once again softened as he read through, what kicki assumed was, yeeun 's message. kicki already stepped aside, letting yoongi move in front of her and following him to her front door. suddenly, he stopped just as he got a grip on the door handle, turning to face kicki again.
''hey, kicki?''
she stopped, the way he said her name so lightheartedly making a small smile tug on her lips. ''yeah?''
''do you think it would be too much if i went over at her place now?''
well, he surely was willing to work on it. right now. yeeun really was important to him.
''um. not really.'' she said, shrugging slightly. ''but if you go, make sure to talk about what happened and make it right.''
yoongi nodded, opening the door and taking a deep breath as he walked to yeeun 's door. he glanced over at kicki with a smile before knocking firmly on the door a few times.
''thanks, kicki.''
''anytime.''
as she closed the door, she could hear another one opening and yeeun 's muffled voice, scolding yoongi and yoongi desperately trying to find the right words to say, could be heard and kicki sighed, a ghost of smile on her face as she made her way straight to her bedroom. she really needed to get some sleep and survive tomorrow's morning class.
but she couldn't help but wonder how everything will work out between yoongi and yeeun.
