J'ohn's pov
I stood in the hallway, looking everywhere but at the people passing by. I sighed for the fifteenth time that day, trying to not be so cowardly and move. However I didn't, this was all so new to me and I was incredibly nervous, not to mention horrified by all the strange things I was seeing. I tried not to stare too much and ran a hand through my teal hair, loving it's unusual color and style. I had gotten a few strange looks about my appearance but my nerves were too strong notice.
I fiddled with my black vest and dusted off my khakis, it was a school uniform I could live without, or could I? I didn't know why uniforms were necessary or even required. The idea of conforming with everyone just so people outside the conformity would know who you were didn't make sense, at least to me. I had been raised in a town where being conform was nonconform, there wasn't a specific way of doing things, it was just live happily. However I knew from the moment I moved to this city that there was protocol, a way of living I was going to have to live with and understand.
"Alright J'ohn." I told myself for the third time that day. "This isn't hard, just try to act normal." I smiled, trying to give myself some confidence, that's exactly what I needed.
"J'ohn! J'ohn Jonzzs!" I jumped slightly and turned to a shorter boy, who I could guess was in my grade, judging by the badge on his chest. He had gotten to my so fast, I could swear he was a human lightning bolt. "You're J'ohn Jonzz right?"
I nodded slowly, feeling a little uncomfortable by how happy he was to see me. "Yeah....I am and you are?.."
"Barry." He said stretching out his hand. "Barry Allen, I'm part of the student council and was assigned to help our transfer student around on his first week."
I took his hand and shook it. "It's good to meet you Barry but I think I'll be okay, it can't be too hard to manage around here." I smiled weakly but Barry didn't seem to amused.
"Trust me J'ohn." He said "You are going to be happy to have my help." I sighed and nodded, we had a few minutes before class started, why not look around.
"Alright cool." He said and started to walk me away from locker. "So in this school, there are cliques, but that's like any school."
"If you say so." I mumbled looking around. At my old school there wasn't really cliques, everyone was friends with each other and it was just a happy family. This school seemed more closed off and as Barry said 'cliquey'
"The first clique is the jocks." He said as we passed by a bench, right besides the entrance to the football field. There were several buff teenage boys, huddled together and watching one of them play some sort of hand held game console. "These are the football and baseball player idiots of the school." Barry explained brushing back his blonde hair. "We have several types of sports played here but all of them go by a similar name of Justice Academy Lanterns. Green lanterns to be exact, and I guess that's why our uniforms are green, I mean what's a green lantern without being green huh?"
He chuckled slightly to his own remark and smiled politely. I was beginning to tell that Barry wasn't the funny type, more like the smart and efficient but he was nice enough, maybe we'd even end up friends. I opened my mouth to say something, when I noticed him looking at one of the jocks, the one holding the game console. He had brown hair, that was brushed over to one side and green eyes, I could tell by his shape that he must've been the quarter back.
"Who is that?" I asked looking at Barry, who quickly looked back at me, as if he wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary.
"Oh that's Harold Jordan." He said slowly walking me away from them. "The school's star quarter back and everyone calls him Hal." He looked slightly annoyed by the mention of him but I didn't ask why.
"Okay here are what everyone calls 'The girls' or 'The girl power squad." He pointed to a bunch of girls sitting a table in the lunch room. "Their leader is Diana Prince, it's rumored that she hates all men because she thinks they are all horrible people."
"Huh, that's weird..." I started but was interrupted by a group of guys walking over to the girls. It was lead by a muscular boy, with raven hair and a small necklace around his neck, with a bat shaped pendant dangling off it.
"Hey Diana." He smirked leaning against the table. "You still haven't responded to any of my texts, you aren't going to leave a guy hanging are you?"
I didn't know much about girls but I could tell that Diana was annoyed. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, her long raven hair was brushed to the side as she glared at the boy. "Listen Bruce, I keep telling you I'm not interested in a fuckboy like you, if I was going to be dating anyone, it wouldn't be anyone like you."
"Aw Diana." He said in what I could tell was mock hurt. "Don't be like that, I know you like me.."
"Bruce maybe we should just leave them alone." Another raven boy said placing a hand on Bruce's shoulder. "Every time you try, it's always the same answer."
"Clark, I keep telling you its about persistence." Bruce started but was quickly silenced by Diana.
"Clark is right, go away." She said and a few of her friends nodded and Bruce sighed, walking away but it was obvious this wasn't over.
"Those are the most popular guys in school." Barry whispered to me as we walked out of the lunch room. "Clark Kent is students council president, youngest one yet, Bruce Wayne is a huge fuckboy and has probably slept with every girl in the school....except for Diana Prince."
"He seems to really like her." I stated. "However I don't think his methods are very effective."
"Nah he doesn't really like her." Barry said shaking his head. "He's just a rich boy who wants to mark his territory, everywhere."
I chuckled. "Well he doesn't seem to be doing so well with that.""He doesn't." He laughed loudly as the bell rang. He sighed and looked at me. "Well it's first period, let's go."
I nodded and mentally started to freak out. I followed Barry to our first period class, knowing I was going to have to introduce myself and then embarrass myself, why did I have to screw everything up!
Once everyone was in their seats, our teacher stood up and stretched a hand out, pointing to me. "Everyone, meet our new student, J'oan Jones."
I stood up rather quickly and slipped right onto my face. Everyone started to laugh at my stunt and covered my face as I groaned in embarrassment. This was my introduction and first day at Justice Academy.
