August 24th. The day I started sophomore year and the beginning of what would soon become the worst year of my life. It started like any other day; me Castor and Esmond all walking into school together like we always did.
We went through all the motions but something wasn't right. It felt off in a way, and there was this feeling of despair and hate that plumed over everything. It gave me a bad feeling and I couldn't quite figure out what it was.
We sat at the lunch table where we sat last year. The little circle table in the corner, where all the pariahs were banished to. We sat there and observed like we always did, found all the flaws in the so called perfect people and were often quiet so we could pick up all the latest gossip.
If there is one thing that pariahs are good at it's knowing all the latest drama. Mostly because we are very observant and people aren't afraid to say stuff in front of us because we are practically invisible. The only time that anyone actually talks to us or acknowledges our existence is when they want to know what's up. Popular kids always come up to us and ask for the latest gossip and rumors. That's the only reason we aren't bullied, because we know literally everything about everyone. So if you're mean to us, all your previous secrets will be let out to the whole school.
It's funny because people barely even know our names, but we know exactly when where and who you sent your last nudes to... and we screen shotted them. This makes us very good at negotiating and can weasle our way out of almost any situation. We even have dirt on the teachers. One time we caught Miss Simons and Mr. Evans kissing in the teachers lounge, and then that same week Miss Simons had the audacity to try to fail my project when she saw a kid bump into me and cause it to fall on the floor and break. Let's just say I got an A on that project.
Having all that knowledge has over the years made Caster, Esmond, and I the most well known pariahs of our school. We're the king of the outcasts as you may say. Its not the most exciting role to play, but its the closest a pariah would ever get to being popular.
But as I was saying we were sitting at lunch when we saw Butch Bailey walking toward us. Butch was the kid that stepped over the bounds of being a pariah. He went from girl to girl constantly, just to hop over the border and receive the attention of being popular once in a while. He dated the girls that were popular but desprate enough to date him. Butch is very easy and he lets popular hoes take advantage of him, but the funny thing is, is that Butch makes himself easy. It's all part of his plan; make himself look easy so the popular girls will think they are the ones that have the ace up their sleeve, but really Butch is the one because when they agree to date him he is now popular all of a sudden. He never really has feelings for those girls, but don't get the wrong idea. Butch isnt some heartless whore that gets what he wants from tricking women, he's just a confused highschool kid that has gotten caught up in a system that gets him what he desires, but not in the right way.
You might say, well why doesnt he just stop? Ill tell you why, because if he does he goes back to being worthless. If you were treated like us, you'd understand...
But anyways, Butch was walking toward us and pulled up a chair to sit with us.
Yay...
"Hey baby"
Butch is always trying to flirt with me."Hey Butch"
"What would you say if I told you that I got tickets to the Bring Me The Horizon concert?"
No way!!
"No way!", Esmond budded in, literally stealing my thoughts.
"Yes way, and I'm letting one lucky person come with me"
"So you came over here to ask Will right?"
Esmond looked disappointed as he looked over at me.
"As a matter of fact, I did", Butch said as he winked at me.
Oh no.
"Are you serious?", I asked.
"Um... Ya! You're like the hottest girl I know and you know how to have a good time."
Don't know what that's supposed to mean.
"Oh, well, thanks Butch."
"No problem babe. So uh, is that a yes?"
"Well I'm not going to turn down a chance to see my favorite band in concert now am I?"
"Than it's a date."
Ugh.
"Whatever Butch. I hate you.", I say with a laugh.
"Not for long!"
"Thanks for the warning."
"That was a promise."
And with that Butch just winks and smiles his stupid little smile and walks away.
"Will...", Esmond says with a smirk.
"What?"
Esmond just looks away and continues to drink his smoothie; loudly sucking up the last drops from the bottom like it was the remaining drops of the Nile.
"Butch likes you.", Castor whispers.
"You don't have to whisper, its no secret."
"Oh well aren't you just smug?"
"I'm not smug I'm just saying he makes it really obvious."
"Well not all of us are that lucky."
"Having Butch crush on you isn't what I would call lucky."
"What then?"
"Well... If it was Alistair Curtis it'd be a whole nother story..."
"Alistair Curtis!!", Esmond says breaking from giving me the silent treatment. He looked frustrated with me.
"Well ya..." I said nervously.
"Ugh. Willoughby Anais Harper I thought I raised you better! Have you learned nothing?!"
I was glad he was joking. At first I thought he was gonna be hella mad. But who knows, maybe he's just playing it off.
"What?! A girl can dream ok?", I joked back.
"Whatever."
Esmond started his silent treatment all over again because I basically announced my love for the king of, well, everything. Alistair was the schools MVP and class president. Ive liked him for a while, but I've never told Esmond so... I could see how he would be shocked.
But before we could argue over something else stupid the bell rang and we all parted ways to finish up the school day.
