School went on that day and it was all the same. The typical first day of school; consisting of "get to know you" games, class introductions, turning in your summer work, and of course the reading of the sacred Washington High Code of Conduct. Squad rode home on our bikes like we've been doing since elementary. We ride together past the shops and monuments until we get to Connie's Antiques and Collectables. When we arrive there that's when we all split up. Castor's house is just around the corner, Esmond works at the ice cream shop right next door, and I keep on riding straight until I reach my house. And that's precisely what we did.
We ran threw the motions. But I have to admit I was feeling that weird feeling again as I peddled down main street. That feeling I felt when school started that made everything feel different. I tried to shake it, but I couldn't get it off my mind. Well apparently I was too focused on trying to figure out why I felt this way to notice Alistair jog right into me after turning a sharp corner. I suddenly snapped back to reality.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! I-"
"-no don't worry about it", Alistair said pulling out his ear buds.
He was too cute omg...
"I didn't see you coming", I explained.
"It's all good. I should have been paying more attention"
His dimples when he talked!
"Same"
I blushed. I felt so stupid.
"Wait, your Will right?"
He remembered me?!
Don't get too hyped Will, you'll look stupid.
"Yeah", I eagerly confirmed.
"You're the girl I payed 10 bucks in the third grade to find out if Courtney liked me or not"
Of course that's what he remembers...
"Yup", I said with a forced laugh.
"And the girl I payed yet again in fifth grade to see if Quiniah liked me", Alistair chuckled.
Yup.
"You were pretty shy back then"
"And you made a living off of it"
I couldn't help but smile at this.
"I guess I did. I was more than happy to do it though"
Did I really have to say last part. SMH.
"Why? Cause you though it would somehow break the wall between us and shut down the pariah system?"
And the moment was gone.
"I guess so... I was pretty stupid", I said trying to sound as not offended by this as I could.
"You were"
Wow thanks. So charming.
"Thanks", I said a little too sarcastically. I just sounded mad.
"No problem pariah. I'll see you later"
Oh so now I don't even have a name!
Alistair patted me on the shoulder and continued his daily run. I just got back on my bike and headed home once more.
I hated myself for getting all excited that Alistair was actually talking to me. I could hear Castor and Esmond's voices in my head saying, "See we told you he wasn't your type", and "He'll just hurt you." They're always right and I should of listened, but I can't help but smile when I see him...
----------
When I got home I opened the gate and went through the back door. I rest my bike on the wall in the mud room and took my shoes off. I went into the house and went straight to the pantry. I grabbed the pack of oreos and the jar of peanutbutter and headed upstairs to my room.
My parents wouldn't get home until later that evening. My mom is a private chef for some of the well of people in the outskirts of town, and my dad owns and works as head chef at the most popular diner and coffee shop in town; The Conerstop Diner. You can say food runs in the family.
But anyways I headed upstairs and hung my backpack up on the back of my door and sat on my bed with my snack. Right as I sat down my phone went off. It was a text from Castor. It read, "Diner @6. Job-$50." I called Esmond to farther explain Castors scarse wording.
"Hey"
"Hey Will"
"So who are we spying on tonight?"
"Well I've just got an offer by Brad Barns"
"What did he want"
"Well he says Anna is keeping a secret from him and you know how much of an overprotective boyfriend he is!"
"Mhm. Well what's the plan?"
"Ok so I heard Stacy telling Connie that the two of them and Anna were going to eat dinner together at your dad's Diner tonight. Stacy said that Anna had something important to tell them that she had been keeping from Brad. So the plan is to go to the diner tonight and eavesdrop on them. Brad gave me 50 bucks upfront and depending on what all we find out he's willing to pay more. I'd of course split all the earnings."
"Sounds good. Me and Castor will meet you at Two Scoops when you get off"
"Deal"
And with that I grabbed my laptop turned on Netflix and binge watched American Horror Story until it was time to commence Operation Bust Anna.
