Sam put his pick axe back into his bag and took out his shovel and rope. He started shovelling lots of dirt at a time. He shoved the shovel into the ground as deep as it would go, and pushed the handle down, catapulting a pile of dirt at Sam. But all Sam did was wipe the dirt off his face and keep digging. In about an hour Sam had shovelled down two meters. He then tied the rope to a rock and jumped in the hole and kept digging. When he was about ten meters down he found a small rock he recognised immediately. It was quartz. And Sam knew that quartz was found near gold, so that means that there was some gold near. Sam searched frantically until he found a small rock, only about as big as the rocks on a gravel road, made of pure gold. Sam pick up the gold-it was very heavy-and put it in his bag with the quartz. Sam kept digging down and then found some more gold, a little bit bigger than the other one, as well as some more quartz. He put them both in his bag and kept digging.
Sam went down & down & down. About and hour after he found the gold it was getting a little dark so he took out his torch and kept digging. When he was digging he stopped to look at a hole. It was dark inside, " what is in there?" Sam said to himself. Suddenly, a star nosed mole came out and bit his nose. Sam screamed "OH GOD!!!!" He hit it with his torch, shoved it in the hole, and blocked it up with a rock. The mole dug under the rock and stared at him with his dark sad eyes. Sam felt sorry for the mole, so he decided to take him on his adventure. He pulled out a little pack of sultanas and put a couple on his hand. The mole slowly walked towards his hand and started nibbling away. Sam decided to call him Herbert. He held Herbert and the sultanas in his right hand and kept digging with his left hand. It was difficult, but he managed.
