It's been six months since that day and I've gotten to know him well. Well enough to the point where he asked me to go on a date with him- four months a go. We went to a childish little sports field, but it was okay since he was happy about it.
Anyway, we hit it off, as expected, and we're together now. Every weekend we return to the field of flowers to talk and sit or just sit quietly. That silence is always broken though by his special thoughts and songs.
"Why do you think they're called hamburgers and not cowburgers? I mean, there isn't any ham in them."
I would laugh in response, "That's what Google is for." This was my usual answer since he would always ask something completely out there.
"Alright, well, it's still early, lets go to the library and search up everything I've asked these past months. I wrote them down because I really wanna know these answers!" He seemed very excited about learning unneeded information. But I let him drag me to the library anyway.
We arrived there and went onto one of the computers they had. I pulled a chair over next to his, while he began typing.
"You know... We could've just looked this up on our phones." I just realized we could've avoided this trip.
"Yeah, well, this is more fun, walking around with you. Now shush and listen. They're called hamburgers because they're from a place called Hamburg, Germany." He stayed silent for a moment like he wasn't impressed. "That isn't very exciting... I'd rather not find the other answers now." Bennett got up after closing the window. He grabbed my hand once again and started dragging me for the second time.
"Where are we going?" I asked.
"This time, it's a secret." He replied starting to move faster.
It took us a while but we finally arrived at a hill. It's different than the one by the flower field, but still nice. I walked myself over to the top but to my surprise, it was a cliff.
Bennett grabbed my arm before I could fall to my near death. Good thing that won't happen.
He pulled me over to a nearby tree and sat down and I followed along with him. The breeze here was so nice and reassuring. It was like nothing could ever go wrong. I was sitting under a nice shady tree holding the Squirrel King's hand. Who ever thought this would've happened.
I closed my eyes and rested my head against the tree, which soon fell down onto his shoulder. We had a moment of silence and peace. No questions being asked, no songs being sung.
Until he started humming the chorus of a song over and over. That's okay though, it's not that bad.
"What was that sound?" Bennett asked suddenly. I had no idea what he was talking about, I didn't hear anything so I shrugged it off. A second later a loud thump could be heard from behind the tree. It sounded like an apple so I shrugged it off too. But Bennett didn't, he slowly walked to the other side and I heard him whisper a few words. I continued sitting under the tree until he grabbed me again. He stood me up and hid us behind the tree so nothing could be seen.
"What ar-" He put his hand over my mouth and shushed me. I was tempted to bite him because that was rude of him to do. Then again it'd be rude if I bit him, so I didn't. I looked to my left away from him and suddenly a pencil flew by and went off the cliff. Well, maybe it wasnt rude of him to shush me.
Footsteps could be heard coming closer, making swishing sounds in the grass. I tried silencing my breaths as much as I could and Bennett was as quiet as physically possible.
Then, out of no where, a sharp pencil was inches away from my face. There was a quick reaction and in a second I was pushed onto the ground away from the pencil. Bennett was fighting the mysterious figure, trying to get him and his pencils away. I got up off of the ground and tripped a little because of my hard fall. The figure was wearing all black so his face would not be visible to anyone. There's no telling who he could be. The figure turned around while still trying to push Bennett away. He looked at me, I think, still not sure. He let go of Bennett who fell to the ground next, because of how hard he was trying.
The mysterious figure ran at me quickly, it was quite frightening. I stepped back and once I did, I realized I wasn't stepping anywhere. The only thing that happened was a huge fall. I was just beginning my descent to the horrible ground when I heard a scream much like the one I let out on the day I found Bennett in the terror room. I'd never forgotten the events of that day, how could I? I know I promised him, but I just can't.
And now, I'll never be able to properly forget it.
