Skylar POV

The day had gone by peacefully, Zane not allowing me to get up and get things. He insisted that I stayed sat down, resting as much as possible. We were now sat on the sofa watching Futurama. I was sat in his lap with my head lent against his shoulder and a blanket was draped over us, keeping me warm. He said that I could have a fever, but I doubted it. I could hear his heart beat in his chest, the sound was soothing. 

"You alright, Sky?" He said into my ear. I jumped a little, not expecting him to be that close. My wolf was loving all of this contact with my mate, but I had yet to decide on weather I thought he was a wolf himself. He didn't smell like one, but he could have been covering up his scent with something .. 

My train of thought was interrupted when a hand was waved in front of my face. 

"Sky?" He asked again. 

"Hmm? Oh, yeah, I just need a drink. I'll be back" I began to get up but he pulled me back down and got up himself. 

"Stay put, beautiful, I'll go get you a drink" He pushed me gently back down before kissing my forehead and walking out. My wolf was utterly delighted, and I was too. But I couldn't get close. Now with my uncle still lurking around. 

Zane POV

I didn't let her get anything at all. She was ill, I could tell. She tried her best to convince me otherwise, though. And I must admit it, she almost got past me a few times. 

I was happy, my wolf was happy. I could tell that her's was too, and even though she didn't show it I knew she was. I knew why she didn't want to become attached to me. Just incase her uncle shows up. I found out most things about her already, and the reason why she was always alert was because of him. This would make my plans harder to work out. If she didn't find out about me soon then she'd leave, thinking I wouldn't be able to protect her.

I couldn't let that happen. My wolf growled at the thought of loosing her just because I wouldn't tell her. I shook my head of those thoughts as I grabbed a glass of water and brought it into the living room, to see Sky splayed out on the sofa with her eyes closed. Nice try. I placed the glass onto the coffee table before going over to her. Her eyelids fluttered slightly and a small smile was on her face. Yeah, she was faking. 

"Oh dear. It would be a shame if this water were to fall out of my hand.. ~" I walked slightly closer, still without the water. I watched as she twitched slightly before she sat upright. 

"N-no!" She widened her eyes as she saw my empty hand and the glass on the table beside her. Her cheeks went a light shade of red, indicating she had felt embarrassed or foolish. Heh. 

She looked away and sat up. "T-thankyou for getting me a drink. You really didn't have too.. " She said, tucking some of her hair behind her small ear. 

"Sky.." I climbed onto the sofa and sat next to her, making sure she looked me in the eye. Her eyes were beautiful, even if her wolf had most of the control. I used my hand to gently hold her chin to keep her in place. "I need to ask you something.."

Skylar POV

My eyes widened at the seriousness of his voice, his face. That gorgeous face. Snap out of it Skylar! You can't do this!

But you can .. He's our mate. The one who is meant to protect us. Please, Skylar. No more running.. 

"Skylar, will you come to my party next Friday?" He asked.

What.

WHAT?!

I got all flustered because he wanted me to go to his party?! Good going me. I bet he's not even interested. Argh, why am I so stupid..? I was silly to think someone like Zane would like someone like me. 

But he's our mate..

"Uh, sure. I'll come.." I gave him a small, fake smile.

"Great," His face inched towards mine, and our foreheads were touching. I looked him in the eyes as best I could, but feeling stupid for thinking he's go for me. "I need to leave now, promise to get better ok?" He smiled, still looking at me. 

I only could manage a small nod at him as he pulled away and stood up. He then lent down to hug me tightly, and he kissed my forehead again. 

"Great. See you then, Sky." And with that he left. 

Why was he sending me mixed messages ?!
