He brushed his hand against my cheek in a caress. I leaned away slightly and he frowned.
"Dear grandchild, are you afraid of me?"
"N-no"
I'm lying. I am very much afraid of him. He is more powerful than I am here, and has me shackled and unable to escape. So don't judge me, I have every right to be afraid.
"Hmm, I think you are lying. Do you know what the punishment is for lying?"
I shake my head.
"N-no"He grabs my hands and starts to walk again. We walk another mile before he answers me again.
"Lying. Lying has a very severe punishment. If you lie, you get whipped. 75 times. However, I will let you off with a 25 whip warning just this once."
"W-whip?"
"Yes, child. Whip. Once we get where we are heading. Do not worry, all will be fine as long as you behave."
We keep walking. Everything we pass looks mainly the same, but I know when we have gotten to a different part of Tartarus's body. I shudder.
"Ah, you can see through the veil that hides Tartarus' true firm from beings like demigods, no?"
I nod,
"Y-yes"My answer is shaky, unsteady, nervous. I am afraid that I may answer wrong.
"You poor soul. The gods do not know what they have done, do they?"
I tilt my head, confused. He stops, sensing my confusion, and turns to look at me. He smiles, and it gives me the chills.
"You do not know?"
I shake my head.
"They have gotten rid of their only hope. The only being who is truly incorruptible and pure, the one being that can defeat anything, the one that would never betray them, they killed and cast away into the most evil place in the world. Good job them."
I close my eyes as a tear slips out. I do not want to be reminded.
"Oh, you poor child."
I feel him brush away the tear.
"Do not cry, for I am here."
It only makes me cry harder. I am normally not one to cry, but what they have done to me has finally registered to me. I feel him tug me closer to him. His arms wrap around me and he rubs circles into my back.
"Hush, child, it is alright."
"How do you know?"
"Just a feeling"
"Why do you not kill me?"
"We are family, no?"
"That wasn't stopping you last time."
"Last time was different."
He turns sharply and tugs me along. The scenery changes and I notice that we have entered the Heart of Tartarus. A small facility is a few hundred yards away from us. He tugs my hands and leads me there.
