"What lesson should we teach him today?"
"Manners?"
"No that should be easy."
"Obedience?"
"Yes, we really need to teach him that."
"Okay"
My eyes flutter open after hearing the short snippet of conversation, and right after they open, the cell door slams shut, signaling someone has just left the cell.
Kronos is leaning over me."Hello, grandson. Did you sleep well?"
"Yes"
I murmur. He seems unsatisfied but does not comment.
"Today will be lesson 1. Obedience."
I cock my head to the side. He sighs and sits next to me, gently running his hand through my hair, tracing and soothing the scars I had received last night.
"You must learn to be obedient. We all know how impulsive and reckless you are, and how you rarely follow orders. We must teach you to be obedient, follow orders, and listen to your superiors."
"Oh"
"Yes. You must also learn how things work around here. You will be punished everyday-even if you think you have done nothing wrong. Your punishment will vary on how your performed that day and how we feel. If you were good, I will soothe you and cuddle you afterward. If you are bad, you suffer through more punishment and are left without consolation. Do you understand?"
I nod my head, not bothering to question who 'we' is, because I know that I will not get an answer.
"Good. Let us start."
"Okay"
He grabs my hand and pulls me up, then walks me over to the other side of the room, conjuring a chair.
I go to sit on it, but he stops me with a smack of his whip against my legs causing me to stumble.
"You do not do anything until I or someone tells you!"
I nod.
"Sit"
I carefully sit down, unwilling to get more whip wounds.
He walks away from me and I cock my head to the side, wondering what he is doing. He turns, then smiles when he sees that I haven't moved.
"Good boy, come."
I quickly get out of my seat and walk to him uncertainty. He frowns, and I feel the whip again once I get into range.
I rub the shoulder it had hit and look at Kronos questioningly.
"When I tell you to come, you come as fast as you can, got it?"
I nod.
"Now go back!"
I scamper back over to the chair but do not sit down. I look at him.
"Sit"
So I do.
"Come"
I quickly stand up and run over to him, not wanting to get struck again.
"Good boy"
He says and pets my hair.
"You will do anything I or any one else says, understand?"
"Yes"
"You will call me Grandfather in private and Master or Sir in public. Understood?"
"Yes"
He smacks me.
"Yes, grandfather"
"Yes, grandfather."
I correct myself."Good. I will call you what I please in private, but in public you will be called Blu."
"Okay, grandfather."
"Good. I believe it is time for your punishment."
He grabs my wrists and pull me to the wall where he chains my wrists above my head and my legs spread wide. He takes out a dagger and draws words into my flesh, blood pouring out of the deep carvings.
He wipes the blood off his dagger and brings out a vial.
"Open"
I open my mouth and he pours the liquid down my throat. It tastes nasty but does not hurt as much as I thought it would.
"Water from the River Cocytus."
He says, answering my unspoken question.
"If you are going to survive in Tartarus as a demigod, you will need to drink it."I nod as much as I can.
He unchained me and cradles me like yesterday, summoning a wet cloth and dabbing at my wounds.
"You were a good boy today"
He says as he cards a hand through my hair. I smile.
He stands up, carrying me like a child, and lays back in my bed, letting me rest against him as he rubs circles into my back.
I bury my face in his chest, seeking warmth and comfort-what I had rarely had growing up, with Smelly Gabe and all.
Slowly I start to drift off to Morpheus' realm.
A kiss is pressed lightly against the top of my head.
"Sleep well, grandchild"Okay! Another torture scene-a little less graphic. Evil, but comforting Kronos...what more?! Oh yeah, the two other mysterious beings, who could they be??? You will have to wait and see!
