Recap…
Watching with narrow eyes, I followed the red car until it was nothing but a red speck in the distance, before breathing out a long frustrated breath, as I willed my fangs away. The murderous rage I once felt slowly diminished as the seconds passed by. What the fuck did he mean by, ’checking to see if the rumours were true’? No one knew about Kate except for my brother and my uncle. Unless, there was a traitor amidst our walls. Damn it, I would have to deal with it later, for now there was no time to dwell on the past. We had to leave and we had to leave now. Because there was no telling what Evander would do with this new found knowledge.
Chapter 11
[Kate’s POV]
Sebastian was a vampire. A blood sucking, people killing, back from the dead vampire. I can’t believe I didn’t see it before! How could I be so naïve.
I closed my eyes, taking in a deep breath trying to calm my erratic heartbeat. The memories of the night my parents were killed filled my head, everything made sense now. The lack of blood in my father’s body, the sickening sight of my mother’s body after going through a wall.
I quickly opened my eyes, not wanting to be lost in my memories. Sebastian was still standing in the same place, his back facing me as I watched his shoulders shake vigorously, his hands clenched into fists, exposing the dark veins running the length of his forearms. I had to get away from him, there was no doubt in my mind that if I stayed I would end up just like my parents.
As quietly as I could I stood back up onto my feet slowly backing away, but before I could even take one step back Sebastian turned around. His handsomely pale face was blank and his eyes were closed as he spoke, “Kate, relax. I’m not going to hurt you,” he said in a soft velvety voice as he opened his eyes slowly walking towards me with his hands held up in front of him in surrender. I mimicked his every step with one step back in terror, not wanting to be anywhere near him. The image of him with his…fangs… filled my head. He was a monster. A cold blooded killer. A vampire.
I made a run for it, sprinting as fast as I could. Glanced back, I knew Sebastian would be hot on my trail, but he was no where to be found. I suddenly slammed into a wall of hard flesh, momentarily having the breath knocked right out of me.
“There’s no point trying to run Kate, because I’ll always catch you,” he whispered into my ear as his arms held me up against his chest. I couldn’t respond, because I was still trying to catch my breath.
I looked up into Sebastian’s face, seeing no trace of the monster he was just a moment ago. He looked so normal, yet he was the farthest from normal, because I knew what laid under that cold, and utterly flawless exterior, but as I stood there wrapped in his arms, I felt no fear, just a sense of belonging. My body felt so safe nestled into his arms, like there was nothing that could ever hurt me when he was around, but I knew that wasn’t true. This wasn’t a fairytale this was really life.
I tried to push out of his embrace but he only loosened his grip enough to see my face clearly.
“We must leave now, but before we go I have to clean up this mess. So just stay here and don’t bother trying to run away again because I’ll just drag you back here, understand.” I just looked down, my hair covering my face as I gave a simple nod.
