“Time is of the essence here,” Julian said a hint of impatience laced in his voice.
“Are you sure love, you don’t have to say yes, I can stay if you want,” Sebastian said his eyes showing nothing but love and adoration as he awaited my response. I had to do it even if that was the last thing I wanted to say at the moment, “yes.”
Chapter 24
Silence.
It filled the room, a sense of unease settled in the pit of my stomach with the realization that in less than twenty-four hours this would be the site of war. Filled with violence, anger, and most importantly, death. With that, a question hung in the air above me, weighing down on me, making each breath feel harder to take in and let out. The what-ifs ran plagued my thoughts, each much more gruesome than the next. This was driving me crazy, I had to do something to keep my mind preoccupied.
Pushing off the couch I leisurely made my way to the bedroom door, slowly easing it open to see if both guards were still standing down the hall. But to my shock there were three men standing there now all beefier and more imposing if that was possible than the men standing there before.
Okay this was getting out of hand, what was Sebastian going to do when the war actually started, keep me locked away up in one of the castles’ towers like a damsel in distress?
Slowly closing the door behind me I started towards the guards hoping to go down to the kitchen and make cookies or something, anything to keep myself busy while the time slowly trickled down. I hadn’t taken three steps before all three guards spun around their gazes locked directly upon me as I neared them. I faltered, uneasy by their intimidating stance but they were probably just like Kurt, here to protect me not hurt me. “Hey guys, I’m just going down to the kitch-“
“Sorry miss but we can’t let you pass,” one guard rumbled out as they all converged together creating an impenetrable wall blocking the hallway. “Why not?” I asked confused and slightly annoyed.
“Steel gave us strict orders to not let you leave his room,” he replied his face showing no emotion what so ever. Wow, I guess I knew Sebastian better than I thought I did, he was already keeping me locked away before anything even started. Taking a deep breath I pushed my anger aside, these guys were just following orders, the one that would feel my wrath will be Sebastian when he gets his butt back up here. Knowing that there was no way I was going to get by these guys right now I turned back around and headed back towards Sebastian’s room, noticing that the hallway continued on quite a ways more around the bend. There were probably more rooms over there that I could stay in because right now I wanted to be as far away from Sebastian and his room as I could. There was no way in hell I would just go back to his room and sit and wait for Sebastian to come back to get me like a obedient little child. Closing the door behind me, I grabbed my suitcase from the closet tossing the majority of my clothing back into the suitcase as well as my things from the bathroom before heading out the door.
Knowing full well that with their vampiric hearing they would have already heard me rolling my bag through the room I hurried out the door down the hall looking over my shoulder to see the guards watching me with mild amusement. One of them appeared a few steps ahead of me blocking my path.
“Miss where do you think you are going, we’ve already informed you of our orders.”
“If Sebastian wants me to stay in his room he can come tell me himself, now excuse me while I find a new room to put my stuff in,” I replied in a hard tone daring the guard to try and stop me. The guard regarded me for a moment before heaving a sigh, “As you wish.” Stepping aside I gave him a curt nod of thanks before continuing down the hall. The hall went down another fifteen feet lined with many doors on each side. Turning the knob of the second last door on the left I flipped the lights on to reveal another bedroom. It was smaller than Sebastian's room but it was cozy with warm brown and taupe accents. Locking the door behind me I placed the suitcase at the foot of the bed, a yawn escaping my lips. Sleep sounded like a great idea right about now, pulling the covers back on the bed and slipping in between the sheets I cuddled my pillow enjoying the softness as I slowly drifted to sleep.
