Recap …
I sprinted into my room, slamming the door shut, locking it before diving under the bed. I tried to calm my heavy breathing, as the adrenaline pumped heavily through my veins, but I was freaking out. What if it was him? What if everything he had said to me has true and at this very second he was right outside the house?
Chapter 6
I could hear the front door creak, as it was pushed opened. I was terrified, all I could do was stay still and listen carefully to the footsteps.
I could hear the squeaks of the floor boards as he walked around and then a sense of dread washed over me as he started to ascend the staircase. I could hear each foot step now, as he inched closer and closer. The house was deathly silent, magnifying the sound of each step as if it echoed off the walls.
Suddenly the door knob rattled, and I let out a shriek. Oh my god, he’s here, he’s going to kidnap me!
“Kate, why is the door locked? Are you okay, why are you screaming like someone’s about to come at you with an axe?” asked a female voice; which I immediately came to realize belonged to aunt Cindy.
I let out a breath that I didn’t even realize I was holding in relief.
“Kate, why aren’t you answering me?” I immediately crawled out from under my bed and ran towards the door, opening the lock and letting the door swing open so I came face to face with aunt Cindy’s confused face. I immediately wrapped my arms around her in a tight embrace. I felt so stupid, I’ve let this whole thing get to my head, but I was so sure it was him…
“What’s wrong Kate honey? Are you alright?!” aunt Cindy said as she pulled me closer to her body. “I’m fine, just a little freaked out”
“Freaked out? Freaked out about what?” I buried my face in her shoulder in embarrassment, as I responded, “I-, I thought, someone was following me so I ran and hid under my bed.”
“Oh my gosh, Kate!“ she exclaimed, pulling away from the embrace to look me in the eyes.
“Are you hurt! Did you see who was following you? I’ll call the police over right now, and you can give them a description of what the man looked like” she said letting go of my shoulders, and heading towards the stairs. “No, aunty wait!” I called running after her, grasping her arm, “I didn’t see who it was, I just heard something, and…ran.”
“Oh. Well, in that case, how about I just make you a cup of hot cocoa, to help soothe those nerves.” aunt Cindy said with a warm smile. I nodded and aunt Cindy made her way back downstairs, while I left the door open this time before flopping tiredly onto my bed.

A half and hour later, Tyler and uncle Ted came home, and Tyler was just itching to go check out the tree house in the backyard, so I happily, ran after him, watching him sprint towards the big old oak tree. There were wooden steps that led up to the tree house and Tyler was already climbing up them like a little monkey.
I followed him up and when I reached the house, I grinned. It was every child’s fantasy, it had a wooden door that opened up to reveal a medium size room, that had cartoon posters from the olden days, like Bugs Bunny, The Roadrunner, Daffy Duck, and even Mickey Mouse and the gang covering the wooden walls. Tyler was on the other side looking out the window at the fields filled with cows, sheep, and just rolling hills of grass. He turned around and smiled at me, and I couldn’t stop a huge grin from forming on my lips. It was great to see Tyler happy, and I knew he would love it here.
