Ok...here goes the next part. You all know by now my odd usage of a name to indicate POV...This chapter will switch between three ;) Hope it's not too bothersome :P
Also...I tend to write extra long chapters, but you all haven't complained yet so...I'll keep my fingers crossed that they don't suck too bad :D
If you have any questions, ideas or notice anything off with this, please let me know :) I don't mind at all :)
PS* Unedited :)
In advance-Thank you kindly for your support xxx
McKenna:
Tilting the spoon, she watched gloopy oatmeal dribble uselessly off one edge to land in the bowl with a thick plop. Murky white and cream dots spattered along the sides and nausea rose up to greet her. This was what her life had been reduced to...
That one beautiful day four months ago had flipped the script on her and now it darkened her future like an eclipse.
It changed everything.
Sent her entire being hurtling around like tumbleweed in a twister. Her first foray into the real world unsupervised by her very protective older brothers had ended badly for them all. Brothers, who'd always caught her before she fell, sheltered her from every storm and kept her high up on a pedestal so she'd never have to face the harsh realities they'd had to. Like four strong walls built to protect what they held within. Twenty one was supposed to be life changing.
And it was.
Her birthday wish had been to see the city. To see what life outside of their small community was all about. The few who'd left had always spoken highly of it. Some returned for short visits with family, but most just moved on completely, exploring every corner of the globe and not looking back. Her brothers too, had gone back and forth over the years. Two of them had found their mates there; they picked up supplies and did trade with the city dwellers, the other two found entertainment and balance, but not her.
McKenna was raised in the mountains, around snow-capped peaks in the winter. With echoes of laughter and sunrises that took their sweet time to bring in the morning. Around majestic sunsets, where night showed them a whole new world, stars lighting up the sky like fireworks and the moon so huge that it's warmth bathed you with its serenity. Where days were slow but never boring and family filled the gaps. It was a haven for Shifters and sanctuary for Necromancers. They thrived in their natural habitat, content with the peace it provided.
A long suffering sigh left her lips and she rolled her face on her closed fist, one elbow twitching on the table until her cheek pulled up on one side. There was no way she could eat that. Not after having it for breakfast, and again for lunch.
She needed real food.
The greasy, fat inducing-heart-attack kind that her brothers brought back from the city. Anything with stringy cheese or heaps of meat. Something aromatic, salty, saucy, spiced...Ugh!
The spoon clinked against the rim of the bowl when she let it drop. McKenna dragged back her chair with as much noise as she could muster, letting it be known that she was done before turning away from the table and listlessly making her way back to her room.
She used to be able to conjure the strongest of spells but she was never allowed to share that with anyone outside of their home. Not even the rest of the townsfolk that she'd grown up around. She couldn't raise the dead, and had no communication with the other side. At first they assumed that her dark side took longer to develop, but eventually they realized that McKenna was all light. Now, thinking back, it was probably why her brothers been so protective of her. She could do anything in light, but dabbling in the dark side was not her forte. She was definitely no Necromancer...Just plain Witch.
