I opened my eyes to be met by darkness. Sitting up, I realized that I was on the cold floor of a dimly lit hallway.
'Where am I?' I thought to myself.
I searched my surroundings. I found nothing but broken glass and a chair that seemed to be on its side. Rising to my feet, I heard an erie groan. I turned my head in search of where the noise might've come from only to be met by a bright neon sign that read ' EXIT' above a door.
The groan came again. I turned around still looking for the sound's origin. Just on the other side of the hall stood a group of people. They were hunched over and walking slowly. I called out to them in hopes that they could help me.
"Hello?" I said causing them to turn their heads in my direction. "Can you help me? I don't know where I am."
They turned and took a shallow step in my direction, smelling the air as they took a few more steps. ' Odd. ' I thought to myself. They then stopped. The groan came again, this time becoming a low growl. The one in the front, who seemed to be the tallest, tilted his head back screeching at the top of his lungs. I stepped back in fear. I didn't know what he was doing and it began to scare me. As they started to walk again, their movements became faster turning into a slight jog, then a sprint . I took a few more steps back.
Just as their sprinting became a full out run at me, I turned towards the door and pushed it open. Running through it, I slammed the door closed behind me. I could still hear the sound of foot steps.
Before I could move away from the door, they had started banging on the other side. I pressed my back against the door as hard as I could, trying my best to keep it shut. I looked around for something to keep the door shut. Finding a metal folding chair to my left, I grabbed it and planted it just under the handle.
Taking the chance to step away, I realized how fast my heart was racing and how riggid my breathing had become.
" What the fuck? What the actual fuck just happened? " I asked no one as I ran my hands through my hair.
After catching my breath, I noticed that I had on a white top, a pair of blue jeans and a hospital wristband with that read;
'NAME: HEARTFILIA, LUCY DOB: JULY 1 SEX: F'
I caught a whiff of a putrid scent that I couldn't begin to describe. Unaware of how I had just noticed it before, I glanced around at my surroundings, realizing that I was on the roof. I turned around, and shocked by what I saw, walked to the railing. There was smoke, a few buildings broken down while others had broken windows or had fire coming from the inside.
As I stared out at the scene in front of me, I heard the same eerie groans from before, this time louder. Looking down I couldn't believe my eyes.
Zombies.
My attention was brought back to the door by the sound of gunshots. Fear setting in as they got louder and louder.
Then they stopped. Everything had gone quiet.
I made my way towards the door not sure what was happening on the other side. Just as I gotten a few feet from it, the banging started again, the door then burst open landing on the ground. I hid behind a crate hoping that those things didn't just gather enough strength to break down the door.
I heard foot steps coming through as I clenched my chest in terror. My breathing became ragged as the steps got closer getting louder and heavier. Just as (what I assumed was) one of them walked passed me, I got up from my position and bolted to the exit trying to escape before it noticed me.
I'd gotten only a foot from the door, when someone shouted at me causing me to stop in my tracks.
"Hey!" A man shouted.
I froze. I tried to run, but my body wouldn't move. I was terrified.
"Turn around slowly with your hands above your head. Try anything and I'll shoot you." He said. The sound of a gun cocking followed suit.
I started turning around with my hands raised, moving as slowly as possible so that he wouldn't shoot me. I stared at the ground, breathing heavily and trying not to cry.
"You get bit by anything?"
"No." I said.
"Anybody with you?"
"No." I said shaking my head.
"How long you been alone?"
"I don't know"
"Why not?" He asked stepping closer.
"I don't know. I don't remember, all I know is that I woke up in the hallway a little while ago and those things chased me up here."
I heard him start moving the gun again and braced myself to be shot. Just then he lifted my head up, shining a light in my eyes.
"Well at least you're not infected." He said as he removed the light from my vision. "What's your name?"
"Lucy." I said trying to rub the discomfort from my eyes.
"Well Lucy, I'm Natsu." He said placing his hand out in front of me. I grabbed his hand now getting a good look at him.
He was a couple inches taller than me with pink hair and dark brown eyes. He was wearing green camouflage pants and a jacket with a black shirt.
" Nice to meet you." I said shaking his hand. "So Natsu was it? What are you doing out here?"
He reached into his pocket grabbing something small ( a watch I thought.) "My friends and I were sent out here to collect some supplies." He said placing the small object back into his pocket.
"Wait, there's others?" I asked surprised by his words.
"Yeah, speaking of which, we got to go. It's getting late and the sun will be down soon. And believe me, you don't want to be in the city when it does" Without another word, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me back in to the building and down a set of stairs following behind him.
Who is this guy? And why are there freaking zombies?
