After the ball, at about 10pm, the alcohol was getting to everybody. There was a drunken party at about 8pm. People were crazily dancing and singing, and a boiling fire burned in the grate.
Winters were getting bored, so Matt and Ian cooked up a stupid plan for a 'stroll' by the lake. But - it didn't turn out as a stroll.

Down by the lake, all the couples were holding hands and enjoying themselves. I noticed that Dizzy and Blue were kissing and having lots of fun (eh eh).
"James!" I screamed as he pulled me into the icy, freezing lake. I screamed as couple after couple was pulled under the water. Several others were kissing and snogging in the water. We had all changed out of our ball dresses and suits into some un-fancy joggers.
My Jack Wills joggers and top soaked, drenched. My bright blue bra showed under my white, almost transparent top. Dizzy's Jack Wills blue hoodie dragged her down, so she took it off and her pink bra showed terribly under her white strappy top. Her denim shorts almost got pulled down - not by the water, but by Blue.
"Oy, Blue! Just because we are going out it doesn't mean you can do that!" Dizzy screamed, but she had bikini bottoms on underneath so she pulled the shorts off anyway.
When we emerged from the icy waters we had no trace of alcahol and a detention.
THREE DAYS LATER
“Bry!” Jessie shouted, running up to me as I rushed to the common room.
“Yeah,” I smiled, whirling round to face her.
“It’s my birthday on Saturday, I’m 16,” she explained.
“Really? I’ve got four days to buy you a suitable present?” I gasped.
“Yes, but – that’s not the point.”
“What is the point, then?”
“I’m having a Seventh Heaven for my party!”
“Yay!”
“Yeah, but I need some help organising?”
“Right. Good luck with finding someone.”
“Pleeease?” she asked, making her sweet puppy dog eyes.
“Fine,” I sighed. “But only if you keep me void of George Lord.”
George Lord was this really freaky boy in the same year, who has now asked me out 7 times.
This week.
“Oh, I will!” Jessie cried happily. “No George!”
“But you have to fix it up to make him have Rowena Cobblestone on his slip.”
“I’ll try.”
“You won’t try – you’ll do it.”
“I’ll do it.”
“Good.”
“So can you help? Like, now?”
“Now!?”
“Yeah! Thanks!”
She grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me towards a small doorway, which she opened and pushed me in. My eyes took a while to get accustomed to the darkness.
“Hey, Bryony,” Matt smiled.
“Hiya, Matt,” I replied.
Matt always called me ‘Bryony’ – not ‘Bry’ or ‘Nee’ like the others.
“Why the mysterious darkness?” I asked.
“It’s just a precaution,” Matt dismissed. “Against Boggarts.”
“What, like in ‘Harry Potter’?” I laughed.
“J.K Rowling didn’t think of everything in the books,” Jessie sighed, opening the closet.
A windy whirl came out of the closet and transformed into a mummy, which stuck out it’s arms and started to walk towards us. Jessie rolled her eyes, bared her fangs and karate chopped the mummy, which turned into a pile of dust.
“At a vampire’s touch it turns to dust,” Matt sighed. “Otherwise I would have done it.”
I smiled at the note of protection and love in his voice. It was so cute.
“I’ve made the slips,” Matt continued, “and cut them up.”
“Okay,” I ordered. “Put the girl’s names in one bowl and the boy’s in the other.”
“Matt said he didn’t care if two boys end up in the closet together,” Jessie laughed.
I giggled and opened the huge closet door. I winced at the undecorated walls and grabbed some pink and silver streamers. The closet was big enough for at least 4 people, and way enough for two to have a full-on makeout.
“We really need to decorate,” Jessie agreed with me and grabbed a handful of pink love hearts and another handful of glitter.
We spent half an hour messing around with glitter and streamers (oh, and decorating – of course) and then decided to finish.
“We’re done!” I cried happily and threw a leftover streamer at Matt, grabbed my book and skidaddled.
******SATURDAY, SEVENTH HEAVEN DAY********
“Yay!” Jessie cried as she opened her first present, from Dizzy. It was a huge JW notepad, a sparkly beaded pink necklace and a pink JW pen. Jess threw her arms round Dizzy.
“Now mine,” Chaz smiled, handing over her package.
Jessie opened up the paper delicately and inside was a pink snowglobe, with a ballerina inside. Snowflakes and glitter showered down on the ballerina as Jessie shook the globe. She gave a delighted squeal and hugged Chaz too.
“Lucy’s sent you one, as well,” I giggled and gave Jessie a small pink package.
“Aw! I’ll have to FaceTime her!” Jessie smiled contentedly and opened it. A small, pink Pandora charm bracelet glittered in the wrapping. “It’s wonderful!”
“Mine last,” I laughed, and handed over my squishy present.
“Ok,” Jessie smiled and once again delicately picked at the pink tissue. Finally, she got the package open. She gasped as she saw the silky, shimmery pink material in her arms.
I had bought her a pink Invisibility Cloak.
“Oh, oh, oh!” Jessie squealed. “Invis- invisibility cloak!”
“Yup. Had to empty half my vault, though – it was special, sweet 16,” I smiled happily.
Later, at the Seventh Heaven, I organised everyone in a straight line.
“Line, Rowena! Get in the fricking line!” I yelled at her.
She frowned at me as I pushed her.
"Sor-ry!" she said sarcastically.
"Just move."
She moved.
"ROWENA COBBLESTONE!" shouted Matt from the table.
"GEORGE LORD," Jessie shouted from another.
I almost burst out laughing as the two went into the first closet.
"NEXT - BRYONY HEATHWOOD!" Matt yelled.
"AND BLUE MCCOY!" Jessie shouted.
"What?" I heard Dizzy cry out.
