Amber clapped her hands as Josh wrapped his arm around her waist. I pulled away from Tyler, heat rushing to my cheeks.
"L-loren, I...." Tyler stopped, placing his hand on his forehead and looked down. "I messed everything up." He let out a sob, before wiping his eyes. "Take us home Josh."Josh looked at me, shaking his head. "Tyler, can I talk to you for a second?" Amber spoke up, pulling him aside. Josh glanced at me before pulling me into a hug. "Josh...did I hurt him? It's my fault he wants to hurt himself, isn't it?" Tears poured down my face. He shook his head, rubbing my back as he continued to hug me. "Of course not. Tyler loves you. He just needs some time is all, okay?"
I nodded slowly. Time. Something that I worried about constantly. "Josh, how do I ask Tyler-" I was cut off by Amber calling for Josh.
He walked toward her, leaving me alone. My solitude vanished when Tyler shuffled back to me, his hands in his pockets. "Sorry for my little outburst."
I nodded, clearing my throat. "Tyler, do you remember what you said to me when I was at your house, after the whole Monti disagreement?" He nodded, pulling his hands out of his pockets. "Well, um....I-I love you, too."
Multiple gasps reached my ears as I was pulled into Tyler's chest.
"You don't know how long I've wanted to hear you say that." He said cheerfully. I felt my heart flutter. This was the first time in weeks he had sounded happy.
"Sorry to break this up, but we have dinner reservations- and by that, I mean we're going to my house and having pizza." Josh interrupted, winking at me.
Tyler pulled away, smiling at Josh. We followed him into the car, chattering on the way to his house.
"Why did you freak out when you learned that your dad worked at the zoo?"
"I've told you, Tyler. Everything involving my father is gone from my mind." I looked at my feet. "I think he was arrested for murder. But, I don't know."
"Murder? No way. Who would he have killed?" Amber questioned, turning back to face me.
"This may sound weird...but hear me out. When I was knocked out at Jordan's house, I had a dream. My father was there. He killed a little girl. I think....I think it was my sister.".
Tyler leaned against the door gently. "But you don't have a sister."
"Exactly." I muttered. I knew it was odd that I had five brothers, but no sisters. "But there's one thing I don't understand. In the rest of my dream, my mom drove us into a tree while it was raining."
"I don't believe any of this hokey pokey tale, but I'm just going to say it. Maybe that's the reason you can't remember anything before seven. Think about it; you crash into a tree, what do you get if you live?" Amber spoke loudly. "Head trauma. Possible memory loss. Maybe you have retrograde amenisa. You could still form memories afterwards, but you wouldn't remember anything before the collision."
I looked at Tyler's expression, one of pure shock. "How did you know that?" Amber turned around, leaning her arm on the seat. Honestly, it shocked me too. I could have a form of amnesia for Christ's sake!
"You pick up on some things when you pay attention in class." She laughed, her eyes meeting mine. A silence set in the car, apart from the radio. "Loren, do you have amnesia? Do you for the description?"
I was at a loss for words. She was putting me on the spot for something I wasn't even certain of. My hands began to shake as I realized that it was true. "I....I do."
