Zoe POV:
I looked at my Guess rose-gold watch. It told me that it was 11:27pm. I was worried that Lucas would either not show or be late. Everyone seemed late to me, because I was always early.
His Volkswagen pulled into the old, dirt road and I took a deep breath and told myself to just be nice and polite. I stepped out of the shadows and under the street lamp. I walked around to the passenger side and opened the door.
"Can I have a hand?" He asked.
"A hand with what?" I retorted.
He chuckled, took my left hand and kissed the top of it.
He then turned the car around and drove off.
"How are you, Zoe?" He asked. I could hear the curiosity in his voice.
"I'm fine, thanks. Yourself?" I answered politely.
"I'm good; I'm just more concerned about you, that's all."
I could tell that he was deeply concerned about me.
"I told you that I was fine!" It came out sharper than I intended it to.
He didn't seem bothered by the sharpness in my voice; if it was Michael I would've had to endure a lecture about it.
"Before we have our picnic, I need to go back to my apartment and charge my phone before we head out."
I nodded and told him that it was fine.
Once we reached the city, he parked the car and we walked together to his apartment complex.
"So, do you live in the penthouse?" I teased.
He chuckled.
"No, sorry to disappoint your fifty shades fantasies."
We walked out of the elevator on the fortieth floor and stepped onto soft carpet. He steered me towards his door and opened it.
He led me into his bedroom which was surprisingly well maintained. He plugged his phone into the charger and asked me if I wanted a drink. I shook my head; I didn't want to impose.
"So, Zoe, tell me, why was your night so terrible the other night?"
I couldn't control my feelings anymore, I burst out into a mess of tears. He quickly moved next to me and began rubbing my back and telling me that it was all ok.
"It's not ok, Luke!"
"Yes it is, I'm here and nothing bad can happen to you if I'm around."
"Michael raped me."
"He what?!" He was outraged.
"I told him I didn't want to have sex and he tied me up and carried on anyway."
"What an absolute dickhead! Zoe, I'm sorry."
"You did nothing wrong, you don't have to apologize."
He wrapped his arms around me and held me for a while until there were no more tears left for me to cry.
"Let's have our picnic." I stated when I found my voice again.
"Sure, let's do it."
He helped me off the bed and put my shoes back on for me.
"You're treating me like Cinderella." I stated.
"No, I'm treating you like the princess you are."
My lips curled upwards and he smiled.
We headed down the elevator once more, and got back into his car. We headed out towards Middle Park and found a patch of grass to lay our blanket down and eat food. He had provided a feast, a whole esky of drinks because he claimed that he didn't know what I would like to drink. He had also gotten his employees to make us Vietnamese prawn salad, spring rolls and creme brulee for dessert. After we had eaten, I asked the most difficult question;
"So, would you like to see each other again?"
Luke moved me so I rested against his chest, and whispered "Of course, I was more worried that you wouldn't want to see me again."
We organised another night to see each other and we packed up the blanket and the food, headed back to the car and drove off in the direction of my house.
