Luke POV:

Six Months Later...

"Most girls are pressured and bullied into things, Zoe, I'm just giving you the alternative."

"I don't want the alternative, Luke!" Zoe screamed.

I took a deep breath, "well, what do you want?"

"I want you to tell me, yes or no, if you want a child."

"Yes."

"Ok, thank you."

"But, I do not think this is the sort of conversation we should have before I head to work."

"Fine, whatever, we'll have this conversation another time then." Zoe said, fuming and crossing her arms.

"Good." I smiled.

Zoe turned and walked down the stairs. I proceeded to get dressed for work, because I had meetings I shaved and put on my grey three piece suit. I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen to find Zoe sipping her coffee and looking out of the kitchen window. A habit which she had adopted ever since we moved to New Zealand. I walked over to her and wrapped my arms around her body, kissing her neck and her cheeks, rubbing my hands up and down her back.

She sighed and I turned her around, her cheeks were damp and her eyes were red.

"Baby, what's wrong?"

"Because, just let me explain my perspective."

I nodded, allowing her to continue.

"You tell me that you wouldn't have minded if I was late, and that you would be happy if WE had a child, but now, you want to cum in me and have me take the morning after pill or go on the pill in general."

"I want to cum in you because I'm offering you something intimate."

"You shouldn't have to offer your wife anything!"

"Baby, hear my perspective; nineteen isn't a good age for you to have a child, I want you to have a career, I don't want you to just be the boss's wife. I want us to be a power couple. I don't want people thinking that you fucked your way to the top."

"I didn't fuck my way to the top." She argued.

"I know you didn't."

I looked up at the clock in the kitchen and she noticed.

"Off you go."

"I've got time."

"Just wait one second."

I watched Zoe run up the stairs and I heard her rummaging through her drawers. She came bounding down the stairs with one hand behind her back.

"Close your eyes." She ordered.

I closed my eyes and felt a box placed in my hands. When I opened my eyes and opened the box, I found a pair of Mont Blanc cuff links.

"Do you like them?"

"Zoe, honey, they're wonderful. They truly are, you didn't have to get me anything though."

"Of course I did, happy anniversary!"

I smiled and kissed the top of her head.

"What are you getting up to today?" I asked.

"Applying for more jobs and studying."

"I can give my publisher friend a call." I offered.

I could see Zoe thinking it over, weighing up the pros and cons in her mind.

"You don't have to do that, Luke."

"Don't be ridiculous! This world is based on who you know."

She looked down at her mug, one of the few things she bought with her own money.

"Hey, baby, I know you feel guilty asking for these types of things, but that's part of my role as your Daddy."

"I know, I know, but just give me some more time to find an editing, writing or coaching job."

I sighed and kissed her. She smiled weakly and asked if I wanted her to make me breakfast.

"No, I'll just get a coffee on the way to work, remember, I'm not a breakfast person."

She nodded, kissed me goodbye and walked out into the backyard and into our thirty acres of rich and lush green grass. I watched as she started up her motorbike and drove off, our dogs nipping at her heels and hair fluttering in the wind.

I looked at myself in the mirror on the way out the door, I noticed I frowned a lot more than I had previously; I don't know where we went wrong, or when we both became increasingly unhappy.

As I headed back to the car, I saw Zoe blocking the driveway. She ran over to me and I picked her up. She buried her head into my neck as she wrapped her legs around me.

"What's up?" I asked.

"I feel as though I'm letting you down and I miss you when you go to work and I don't want you to be disappointed in me because I don't have a job."

I laughed.

"Daddy, why are you laughing?"

"Because I'm not disappointed in you, Zoe. Quite the opposite, I'm so proud of my baby girl."

"I just didn't want you to leave angry."

"I'm not angry -"

"But you're not happy."

"You're right." She unwrapped her legs from their hold on me and placed her feet on the ground.

"Well, what can I do to help you?"

"I don't know, Zoe. I just don't know." I snapped.

She looked wounded and I immediately felt guilty.

"I'll get out of your way then."

"Zoe, come on."

She walked back to the house, her dog - Kismet - looked at me and then followed her inside.

"Smart dog." I thought.

I got in the company car and headed off to work. There were so many things I wanted to tell Zoe, but ever since she had seen a psychologist, I didn't want to burden her.
