Zoe POV

It was early on Thursday morning, when I awoke grasping at the pillows and sheets. I looked down and saw Luke's head in between my legs, I smiled and softly moaned when he was finished, he kissed the inside of my thighs and got up to take a shower.

"Good morning, handsome." Was my greeting for him.

"Hello, my love." He replied as he headed towards our en-suite.

I remained in bed, reaching for my phone I had an email from Jess and the United Nations in regards to the internship I unfortunately had to turn down.

I read the one from Jess first; she was explaining her recent blow-up with Cameron, and how he had proposed to her, the way she wasn't ready to settle down and that she was going to spend time with her parents or go off on a holiday. I initially rolled my eyes, but if I was truthful, I admired and respected her strength in leaving him behind for a while.

I looked over the one from the UN next, they explained that they were disappointed that I had turned down the internship and urged me to reconsider. I thought about it for a while, but Luke padded out of the bathroom, snapping me out of my daydream of working for a non-government organisation.

"I've been thinking." He said.

"What's new?" I asked, drily.

He rolled his eyes, "I think you should become my personal assistant."

"What?"

"I know we talked about it when you were still in school."

"I thought you wanted to keep work and home separate."

"I did, I did."

"But?"

"But, I think you'd actually be good at it."

"More like, you don't trust me and want to ensure I'm under your supervision."

"I'm worried about you, Zoe."

"Don't be." I crossed my arms, and looked out of the window.

Luke reached over and attempted to pull me close.

"You've still got the UN thing to look forward to, right?"

"Uh-huh." I mumbled into his chest.

"Which I think you should definitely throw yourself into whole-hardheartedly."

"Uh-huh." I repeated.

He didn't know, at the same time, I wanted him to know I turned it down because I was scared to leave him, scared that I would fail; but more importantly, scared that I couldn't stand on my own two feet.

"Do you have a busy day today?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"Not too busy, the tradesmen are still working on the new restaurant and the project manager is away and I've got a few meetings."

"Sounds riveting." I said sarcastically.

"What are you up to today, my love?"

"Probably just writing."

He nodded. He smiled, but his eyes were dead. That's what our life had become; monotonous, boring and unsatisfying. We acted happy to please each other; I could feel a storm brewing, this was just the calm before it.

I watched as Luke got dressed, the same repetitive actions, which used to enlighten me into his vast mind of thoughts, now caused my teeth to grind and my fists to curl. I had grown angry, but not knowing what I was angry with.

He walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. I got up from my position on our bed and followed him. I set on the steps, poking my legs through the gap in the railings and letting my legs and feet hang, then swing back and forth.

It was moments like these that I felt like a useless doll. I was put on the shelf until Luke returned home.

He waved goodbye and waved back. As soon as I heard the door close behind him; I pulled my legs out of the railings, ran to the window and watched him drive away.

I sent an email to Jess, asking her if she would like to go out for lunch. Whilst I was waiting for her reply, I looked at my reflection in the mirror, called my hairdresser and made an appointment. If change was on its way, I may as well be prepared.
