AN// So I'm talented and posted the same chapter twice, opps. Here's the actual chapter 10//

"What you need to understand, is that, to become apart of the Schatten der Nacht, you can't just walk in, talk to the higher ups and get in. It takes 7 phases, and the first phase is always unintentional. They come to you. You never find them." I say, looking at my father.

"But they found you? So you completed the first phase?" Kaspar pipes up.

I nod my head.

"The first phase is willingly saving someone's life. Without hesitation. Without thinking of the consequences. Just selflessly doing it."

Everyone but Zakhar looks startled by this and dad notices.

"Zakhar, you don't look surprised to hear this."

"Well, let's just say, they came looking for me when I was over there, but I declined. I had an idea of the types of things that gang would make you do to get in, and I wanted no part of it."

I look down at my lap, somewhat shocked by this revelation.

He could have tried to warn us when you called him up freaking out that we had almost just died for someone else.

For once, I'm actually in agreement with my conscience.

Why didn't he warn me?

"What do they make you do?" Ivan speaks up, merely sounding curious.

"I'm not allowed to speak of it. We are the shadow gang for a reason. Shadows hold the secrets of the night, secrets we do not share." I automatically say, not looking at anyone.

I already have one gang on my tail, I don't want my own on my case about spilling secrets.

"Can't you ju-" Ivan starts to speak, but I raise my head and glare at him.

"This gang has secrets, would you spread them about if another asked? Would you commit treason against your gang? I wouldn't. I wouldn't go against my gang, and I sure as hell wouldn't go against my family. Many would end up dead."

He breaks eye contact with me and I continue explaining the basics of Schatten der Nacht initiation.

"There are seven different tasks we have to complete and we get a tattoo after the completion of every task. The dog tags are given to us at the end as a gift so to speak and a way for us to identify each other on the streets."

"But you have two." Ivan pipes up again.

Wowwww, aren't you a master of stating the fucking obvious.

I chuckle silently a little at my conscience. She has a point.

"Yeah well, the tags are never reused, and if someone dies, they go to the person the deceased was closest to in the gang. Seeing as my boyfriend was murdered in front of me, I think it's pretty obvious why I have two tags." I roll my eyes at the end, hiding behind the sass, inside, however, my heart is screaming, sobbing.

Just like I was all those months ago.

The room goes silent as what I just said is absorbed by my father, brothers, Mikhail and Ivan.

"Your boyfriend?" Kaspar sounds slightly strangled as he says this and I can't help but chuckle at him.

"Oh big brother, you can't honestly expect our genes to go unnoticed by those who value strength and loyalty?"

He can't respond back to that and settles for glaring at me. Idiot. I'm not 9 anymore. I don't need his protection as much as he thinks I do.

I look over at Papa, and he looks merely curious at the fact that I'd had a boyfriend and hadn't told them.
