First year at a new school, new life, and a fresh start. Ann waves at him as he enters the building. He smiles back, before turning around and begins looking for Kourtney. It's been a while, and they haven't seen each other since he moved in fifth grade.
But the school was more crowded then Troy had originally predicted. He was still expecting to hear the words "Hey faggot". Looking through his backpack he found his phone, hesitating to press the button that would connect him and his emergency contact. You could hear his heart racing if you stood close enough.
"You can do this troy." He said to himself taking a deep breath trying to get himself to calm down. Shutting off his phone before he had the chance to press call.
"Of course you can. You have us." A voice said cheerfully behind him. Although the voice was kind Troy still tensed. Before turning around quickly. Troy greeted the girl with a slight smile, she had a different way of greeting, and she walked toward him to give him a hug, stopping once she saw he wasn't to welcoming to the sight of her coming closely. Unfortunately the young man with her didn't acknowledge this.
"Missed you." Bryce said giving Troy a hug, not receiving one back.
"So what do you have first hour?" Kourtney asked. She was hoping to have all the same classes as him, to keep an eye on the boy she knew and hadn't seen for so long. This had been the first time in about four years that she had finally been able to see him in person. She was not going to let him out of her protective reach again. Kourtney has known troy since fifth grade. She only knew him for a few months, before the move took him away, but it didn't take long for her to realize the boy was broken.
Bryce on the other hand has known Troy since the beginning of 2nd grade maybe even longer. The first guy that Troy didn't feel weird around, or get the feeling that they were talking behind his back. Bryce was the one person who understood Troy, before Kourtney came along.
"M-Math." He said, pulling out his schedule.
"What teacher?" Bryce asked.
"Mrs. Larzon." Troy responded, pulling out his phone, checking it once again only to find that it was only 7:50.
Kourtney took the phone out of Troy's hand. Putting it behind her back so he couldn't get it.
"Hey!" Troy practically yelled. Trying to grasp his phone.
"Just give it back." He pleaded, she soon gave in, giving it back to him, but not before she stepped close enough for her not to have to talk loudly over the crowds of other kids waiting for the bell to ring.
"You'll be fine, remember new school, new opportunities, and forget about what happened at Solon, It won't happen here. Not while I'm here." She assured him. He nodded and tried not to dawn on the past. In a blink of an eye a stampede of kids ran past him, pushing the group of three against the nearby wall. Kourtney was the first to step in and start walking with the crowd followed by Troy, then Bryce.
When troy arrived at his locker he put his bag inside grabbing the black folder he labeled "math" before shutting his locker, locking it behind him. Taking a deep breath he walked to class.
The room was full and most of the kids were sitting with their friends. Looking around the room he saw an empty seat in the far back corner of the room. Before he could sit down, a boy blocked his way.
"Well look what we have here fresh meat." The boy's height intimidated Troy, along with his green eyes that seemed to be hiding a dark secret, and the smirk showed the true intentions of his demeanor. It was no question as to why Troy automatically became defensive.
