The following day was the activities fair. Each club or organization at the university had a few members represent them and were attempting to recruit new students. I was interested in the step team, the alumni society and the activist clubs. As I was walking over to the alumni society's table, I passed the dance team. Everyone there looked very confident and were very inviting.
"Are you interested? Here's some info, you don't have to come to try outs if you don't want to", I heard a voice say as I was walking by.

I walked to the table to grab a flyer, smiled at the girls and continued walking. 'I can't even dance, why'd I grab this?'

I shook my head and finally made it to the alumni society's table.

"Can I have a flyer please?"
"Sure, meeting tonight at 6pm."
"Okay, see you then."

I looked at my watch and it was already 4:37pm. Food was still not in my system so I went back to my apartment to have lunch before making my way to the meeting.

-

6pm is approaching and I was making my way to the room that we were meeting in. "C-100, C-100" I said repetitively while trying to identify the room.

After almost 10 minutes of looking for a room that is obviously not there, I began to give up. I heard whispering behind me, so I slowly turned around to see Tania and a few of her friends walking into a room in the same area that I was at. 'Maybe they're in the club', then my instincts forces me to follow them.

As I walked in, a few familiar faces began to catch my eye, and Normani was one of them. She was speaking with Tania and the few others that were accompanying her. A slight smile began to creep onto my face as I built the confidence to talk to them.

"Hey ladies!" I said to the group of eager faces.
"Oh, hey Camila." Tania says as she speaks on behalf of her group.
"So, all of you are interested in the alumn-"
"Try-outs will begin in 5 minutes ladies!", the president of the dance team yells.

I did not seriously walk into the wrong club.

But I did.

I was shocked after I realized that I didn't belong in that room with those dancers. My college-ego trapped me there because I didn't want to walk out and look dumb for walking into the wrong club.

"You were saying?" Tania says with curiosity in her voice.
"Oh, ahhh... So are you all trying out?", I said with apprehension in my tone. "Well we wouldn't be here if we wasn't", Normani gently chuckled at me, and I felt my cheeks glow once again.

"Okay ladies, step back and watch the routine we're going to show you. After, we'll teach you, you'll have 20 minutes to practice with the other ladies in the room and ask for help if you need it, then its audition time!", the president then smiles and walks towards the front of the room with three other ladies who were already a part of the dance team.

"Oh, fuck." I smiled with nervousness and walked towards the back of the room with Normani and her friends. About 3 minutes later, we hear music begin to play and the members of the dance team began to perform the audition dance. Holy hell, it looked very hard and I am already well informed that I am not a dancer. This was going to be a disaster... and it would be a disaster in front of my crush.

I glanced at Normani to see if she was even remotely as horrified as I was. I saw her eyes squinting and she had the "are you serious?" look on her face. Hmm... I wondered what that was about.

After the dance concluded, Normani laughed. "What's funny?" I said, nervous to hear her response. "I did that dance in high school with my dance team. Piece of cake."
"Really?" I was shocked. Maybe she could help me, or maybe she wouldn't want to because she could be stuck up. With all that in mind...

"So you can help me." I blurted out, almost demanding her help in a gentle tone.

"Uhh, sure. No problem."

Tania then walks over to us and says, "can you help me as well?"

"Of course."

She teaches us bits and pieces that she thought we needed the most assistance with and I was still not getting the hang of it. Either embarrass myself and go forward with the tryout, or embarrass myself and walk out, like a quitter. Camila Cabello was definitely not a quitter. Screw these girls. I'm going to fail the tryout with confidence.

Normani's group was up first to audition. The music began and you could see that she was eager to show them what she had. She then dropped to the floor, got up in such a graceful manner and continued to show the president that she belonged on that team.

Her dance was amazing.

However, it was my turn. "Is it too late to back out now?" Normani then shoved me to the middle of dance floor and said, "definitely too late, you got this."

After the boost of confidence I was ready to go... not really like I had a choice considering the music started playing already. I was doing very well for the first 15 seconds, then my memory felt like it was wiped. I missed a few steps, but continued with confidence. After the music stopped, Tania's name was called and it was her turn.

"Uh, I changed my mind. I'll see you guys later" she says as she begins to make her way out the door. Normani didn't stop her.

"So that was an option Normani?"
"Not for you" she said with a stern tone in her voice and her hands on her hips.

I was so confused, but I didn't want to question it.

After group 3 was done auditioning, the president says "we have everyone's contact information. We will text you tonight to let you know if you made it or not."

It was over. I grabbed my stuff and made my way out the door.

"Mind if I walk with you?" Normani speeds up her pace so she could catch up to me.
"Not at all."
"So how did you feel about your tryout?"
"Eh... it could go either way. I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't make it."
"Nonsense, I think you did good. You shouldn't think negative about it."
"You're right. How did you feel about yours?"
"It was ok. Could've been better."
"You were GREAT!" Obvious excitement was easily heard in my voice, and the embarrassment began to flow through my veins.
"Really? Thanks, I appreciate it." She smiled. "Are you going to stay on the team if you make it?"

"No problem... And uh, probably not. I'm not much of the dancing type if you haven't noticed."

"So why'd you tryout?"

I began to look around, not wanting to tell her my answer. "I just wanted to try something new. I don't think I'm up for it though."

"That's sad, you would've did so well and I would've had a friend on the team."

A friend. She's persuading me to rethink my decision without realizing it.

"Goodnight. See you tomorrow."
"You too, Normani. Night."

We then part ways to our separate apartment buildings.

-30 minutes later-
*Ding*
"Camila, your phone dinged!" Mariah shouts from the bedroom.
I ran in there to see the message. "Due to your effort and your known potential, you have made the team on a 2 practice probation. Congratulations and see you there!"

Or will you...
