It was almost 6pm. I was heavily debating whether or not I should go to the dance practice. I texted one of the other freshmen for her opinion:

Me: Hey, I was just wondering if you were going to practice

Friend: nope. I was told I was on two day probation and that's embarrassing. It's not worth it to me, are you?

Me: I was thinking about it, but I guess I won't. I have homework to do anyway

Friend: ok, enjoy studying lol

Me: yeah, right. Ttyl

Well, there you have it folks. I gave up and I wasn't going to do it. Besides, I'm not in the mood anyways.

Hailey was blowing my phone up all day with complaints about... everything really. It was beginning to get under my skin; I thought smoke was going to come out of my nose and ears.

"Why aren't you replying to me? Who are you distracted by?" Hailey texted. I tell myself to breathe, everything is going to be ok.

"I'm doing homework. Sorry, I've been busy."

"Too busy for me, or too busy being a hoe at school?"

A WHAT? Apparently I can't even do homework without being insulted. I just wanted to focus on this synthetic division and annoying trigonometry, but now I have other fish to fry.

I call her:

"Oh, look who it is", Hailey states in an apparent sarcastic sass. I can hear the irritation in voice.

"I'm not dealing with your shit while I'm at school. I'm not even going to attempt to argue with you about it. We're done."

Before she even gets the chance to reply, I hang up and throw my phone on the bed and continued doing my work at my desk.

Almost twenty minutes later I finally calmed down and grabbed my phone. When I turned it on, I had four missed texts from an unknown number. As I opened it, my heart felt faint.

Talia: "Hey, Normani went to practice and she's wondering where you're at."
Talia: Hello?
Talia: I think she's disappointed you didn't show. You might want to speak to her
Talia: I'll just tell her you're busy. Text me when you can.

I think I felt my head flip inside my skull.

Me: Oh my gosh, I was studying! Can you tell her that I'll be at the next practice, I was just busy tonight is all.

Talia: I'll tell her. Do you want to come over for movie night?

Me: Sure. I'll be right over.

Talia: K.

I made my way out of my bedroom and locked the door. I was walking out, stopped at the mirror to fix my frizzy hair and smudged lipstick and left towards my next destination.

I made it to their place about ten minutes later. As Talia opens the door she says, "Hey girl. You can head to my room."
"Okay." I walked into her room and saw Normani sitting on the floor eating a bowl of popcorn. Music was playing and the tv wasn't on yet. "Oh, look who decided to show" Normani states with a playful sass in her voice. "Yeah, I'm sorry. I had to get work done."
"Understandable. While we're both here do you want me to teach you the dance from today?"

I could only think about how small the room was. How was it going to work in here, and how close was I going to get to this girl? If I get too close, I'd probably pass out after having a panic attack.

"Sure."
"Alright, let's get to it."

Normani went through the dance completely twice so I can get an idea of what I was getting myself into. It didn't look too hard, but I was afraid of having to memorize the steps.

She goes through the steps with me, and I kept banging into her. "I'm sorry." Normani chuckled at the flustered words that slipped out of my mouth. "It's fine. It's a little tight in here."

While going through the dance, I felt like I said sorry at least a dozen more times after the initial apology. She seemed very understanding, and she had a light chuckle every time I apologized. I tried to stop myself, but the apologizes began to seem habitual.

After we were done, I asked her to dance with me a few more times. She clearly looked tired but I liked her dancing, so why not take advantage? Seeing her hips sway and her perfect drops was wonderful, but I knew I had to stop.
"Thank you. I'll see you at the next practice."

The entire time, Talia was sitting in a chair a few feet away from us interested in what we were doing.
"We'll reschedule the movie night because it's getting late."
"Ok", Normani and I said simultaneously.

"Good night everyone, I'll see you later and thanks for having me."

"Anytime" Talia said as she reached over to hug me for my departure.

Normani snapped her head at the occurrence, but didn't speak about it. I just waved and said "Bye" to Normani with a gentle smile. I was way too nervous to have any physical contact with her.
"See ya. Goodnight."

After that, I just made my way back to my bedroom waiting for the next practice.

Although I was considering texting the president earlier today to tell her I was no longer interested, I'm glad I didn't because I knew this was going to get so much more interesting. Practice... come already.
