Chapter 14 – A Cuddle With The Brother.

Walking up her driveway Brooklyn wondered what her brother would say to the fact that she had clearly been crying. She stopped when she reached the door to whip a final tear from her cheek and walked in. Even though she was a good 15 feet away she could hear something coming from the lounge, Brook knew that it must have been something to do with Dallas because his small blue ford fiesta was back on the drive but it didn’t sound like the T.V. Creeping towards the centre of the house Brooklyn suddenly knew what it was. Her hard as nails, overprotective 19 year old brother was crying, something she had only seen him do twice in all her 15 years.

“Dallas?” she said with confusion. The only time her brother ever cried was when somebody died and Brook knew that this couldn’t be the problem because if someone had died then mum’s car would have been on the drive too. Brooklyn rounded the corner and saw Dallas lying on the sofa in his year 11 leaver’s jumper; she knew things must be bad because he only wore that when he was extremely depressed. “What’s the matter?”  She said as she walked past his head and down to where his feet were lying limp at the other end. As she went to sit down Dallas finally noticed his sister and curled his legs up to let her sit down. Dallas and Brooklyn had been as close as two peas in a pod as their mum would say. Through their parents’ divorce they grew so close that unlike most brothers and sisters they could tell each other anything and Dallas was always there for Brook right up until September when he left for university, and even though he promised to visit at every opportunity he got Brooklyn still missed him every time he went away.

Dallas sat up, turned towards Brook and put his head on her shoulder. Although it was normally him comforting her, she didn’t really mind. “She dumped me.” He said through the tears and Brooklyn stroked his sandy blond hair.

“What?!” Brook couldn’t believe what Dallas has just told her. If he was telling the truth, and she didn’t see any reason why he wouldn’t be, then Kayla had broken up with him after 4 years of them going out.

“She said that she didn’t think it was working with me living so far away and she needed someone who lived closer.” He was still sobbing and Brooklyn was staring at him with shock covering her face.

“After everything you’ve been through? I thought she brought you a webcam so you could Skype every day? Why did she suddenly break it off?” Brook lifted her brother’s chin and cleared the tears from his face.

“apparently she’d decide it wasn’t going to work about a month ago but wanted to tell me face to face, but in the mean time she’d gotten with Rider and broken up with. I just can’t believe she’d do that to me, 4 years turned to nothing in minutes.”  He was still crying and so Brook sat and hugged him while trying to comprehend everything that she’d just been told. Rider was Dallas’ best friend since primary school and Brooklyn was more shocked at him than she was at Kayla. Rider was gorgeous he had really deep blue eyes, blond hair and a tanned body with a six pack. Brook had always had a soft spot for him but as she was Dallas’ sister she was off limits.

“I know exactly what you need!” Brooklyn suddenly had a flash of inspiration; she jumped up and ran out of the lounge and into the kitchen. “I think it’s time to re-introduce you to my two favourite guys in the world, after you of course.” Dallas sat up in confusion and stared after his little sister, who he had suddenly realised, wasn’t that little anymore.  There was some clattering around and after a few seconds Brook jumped back to the door way with a pot of ice cream and spoon in each hand. “Ben and Jerry” she walked back towards the sofa where Dallas was now removing the infamous leavers’ jumper and reaching out to Brooklyn for his pot of ice cream. Once she had a hand free brook picked up the remote and sat down next her older brother.
