Chapter 19 – An Unwelcome Surprise
-Samson-
I don’t know why I'd decided to go again because last time it resulted in me being slapped, several times. But after Brook had told me that it helped her think I thought I might as well give it a go. I walked slowly down past the high street and onto the beach. It wasn’t long before I saw something I didn’t like. Dylan was walking along the beach towards me with his arm around Brooklyn, I couldn’t believe it, I was right he’d told me to break up with her just so that he could get her. Part of me wanted to turn around and walk back in the opposite direction because I just couldn’t believe what they’d done to me. Yes I'd messed Brooklyn around and upset her and yes Dylan was right I shouldn’t have done what I did but what right did he have to go behind my back and go out with my ex-girlfriend? Just as I was about to turn around I noticed Brooklyn look at me and then whisper to Dylan, she must have spotted me which meant that I now couldn’t turn around and run away like a scared little girl, I would just have to brave the shit that was about to rain down on me.
I slowed down hoping that they would turn around in time and I wouldn’t have to confront them but they didn’t they edged just as slowly towards me. I began to plan what I would say in my head but I knew that things wouldn’t happen the way they had in my dreams the night before. Last night I'd dreamt that I was walking along a road and Dylan and Brook were walking towards me, when they got close to me I asked Dylan what he thought he was playing at and he just took a swing at my face. I managed to block it somehow and so to protect myself I took a swing at him and hit him square in the face, he fell down and Brooklyn stepped over him, she flung herself into my arms and we walked off into the sunset together. But I knew it couldn’t happen in real life, I knew that I would have to face it and that nothing in this would could help me.
I finally got close enough to see Brooklyn’s beautiful eyes and Dylan stupid smug grin. I wanted to punch him before he’d even opened his mouth but I knew that to look good in front of Brooklyn I had to at least give him a chance. I was just about to open my mouth to ask him what the hell he was playing at but before I could Brooklyn’s amazing lips opened and she began to speak to me. “Samson what are you doing here?” she released herself from Dylan’s grip and walked towards me, I wanted to reach out and hug her but I knew that Dylan would probably punch me and that’s a humiliation I wasn’t willing bare in front of Brook.
“Well I wanted a walk so I thought I'd take your advice and come down to the beach. What are you doing down here?” I knew I would be lucky if I got answer but it was worth a shot. Dylan stepped forward and crept his arm around Brooklyn again as if to say ‘back off she’s my girlfriend now’.
But although I thought he was about to ask me a totally pointless and inappropriate question but instead he turned to Brooklyn and asked her a question, although not inappropriate or totally pointless. “Don’t you think we should be going Brook, I mean we’ve got to sort out our transport and I really want to have a look at your dress so I can find a matching tie.”
“Wait you’re not talking about prom are you?” they must have been, but less than three hours ago Dylan wasn’t even going, that’s why I was so confused. Brooklyn gave me a guilty look and really wanted to tell her that it wasn’t her fault and that she should go with me instead but Dylan spook first.
“No Samson, I just want my tie to match Brook’s dress because I feel like it. What do you think?” Brooklyn still hadn’t spoken to me and she almost looked disgusted at the way Dylan had his arm around her, and he wasn’t letting her talk to me either it was like she was his puppet and this was some sick little game he was playing with me.
“Well I think I was talk to Brooklyn not you actually!” I shouted at him and stepped forward towards him. I saw Brooklyn winch out of the corner of my eye because she knew that if one of us didn’t back down this could very well turn into a fight.
“there was a short silence and then Brooklyn whispered something in Dylan’s ear and he opened his mouth to speak again, but this time I wasn’t going to let him get between us. “No Dylan!” I shouted. “If Brooklyn doesn’t want to talk to me herself then I'm not willing to talk through you.” We all stood in a short silence and then I'd had enough. “I'm going now, if you want to talk to me Brook with HIM being here.” I pointed to Dylan with a disgusted look on my face. “Then you’ve got my number, you know where I life and we go to the same school for Christ sake.” I looked at Brooklyn and pleaded with her through my eyes but she looked away and back to Dylan. It looked as if he was about to say something demeaning to me so I turned around and walked back towards my house. I toyed with turning around and looking back to see what they were doing but I knew that would just make me look weak and that’s something I didn’t want to do.
