I wake up Wednesday morning and slowly open my eyes. Sun shines though the window through the cracks of my blinds. I turn into my side. The clock says 7:00. Damnit, I'm going to be late. I throw the covers off of me and swing my feet around to the edge of the bed.
There is no time for showering so I quickly wash my face and get dressed. I go downstairs to start my coffee before I continue. Once I'm finished with that, I do simplified makeup and hair. It's about perfectly timed so that when I'm coming downstairs the coffee machine beeps at me. I prepare my coffee and realize I won't be able to even be near on time if I ride my board, but my mom has left and I have no ride. Maybe I can call Rachel.
She picks up in the fifth ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey, are you at school yet?"
"No why? I'm on my way."
"Can you come pick me up? I have no ride."
She pauses.
"Sure."
"Thanks so much."
So now I sit and wait. I go over to the TV and turn it on to the news. Nothing too interesting. A few minutes of channel surfing and my phone goes off again. A text from Rachel.
I'm out front, get ur ass out here.
I grab my bag and jog out to the car. I pull open the passenger door and get in. She quickly drives away.
After a few minutes of driving, she says, "Any plans after school? Maybe we can do something."
I am about to tell her that I have no plans and that we could totally do that but then I remember. I do have plans. I had completely forgotten about me and Damon's "date" today.
I don't even realize I am smiling until Rachel says something.
"Hello? Earth to Brooklyn."
"Oh," I laugh, "yeah actually. I have a date."
"Oooh," she says, "who?"
"That guy Damon from the party. I'm not actually sure if it's a date date."
"Where are you guys going?"
"Just the coffee shop. Maybe somewhere after I don't know."
"Fun."
We arrive at school five minutes late.

By the end of the day, I'm both nervous and excited about seeing Damon. I think I'm overthinking it, as I usually do. I've been evaluating what might happen in my head all day.
There's one problem I realize I have after school. I once again don't have a ride or my skateboard. And it's starting to rain. I call Rachel as quick as possible so as to reach her before she leaves. She doesn't pick up. Shit. Maybe I can ask Caramia? We haven't talked in a while. She is one of my other friends that I have no classes with but have been friends with for a couple years. Might as well.
It rings a few times and she answers.
"Hey Brooke, what's up?"
"Um hey is there any way you can give me a ride home? I really don't want to walk in the rain."
There is a silence for a few seconds.
"Uh, yeah sure, where are you?"
"Front of the school."
"I'll drive around and pick you up."
"Okay thanks so much."
"Oh and just to let you know Blake is with me."
