Lily

I Was Nervous

Should I call him first?

Or wait?

Where would our first date be?

If there was one.

When will we have our first kiss?

If we get that far…

When will we marry?

If he asks…

What will I do if he breaks my heart?

Will my wounds mend?

My Cell Phone Rang

and I answered it with urgency.

Is this Lily? It was Howard.

“Yes…this is she.” I could hear him

through the phone trying to make up his mind.

How about we grab a bite to eat later? I screamed

in my head with excitement. “Sure. When can you pick

me up?” Well, I was thinking we could just meet up

at Chartey at 7:30. Chartey was a locally owned restaurant

we had in Mayfield, Georgia. “Sure.” I agreed.

And just like that, I had set myself in a fast course

toward destiny.

When I Arrived At Chartey

he had already

grabbed us a two person

booth.

I sat myself down.

A small table and candle

separated us.

The meal was great,

but I wasn’t focused

on the meal

as much

as I was

on him.

Hey, want to get out of here? he asked,

I could hear the sex in his voice. I know a place

where we can be alone,

There was only one word

that came out of my mouth.

“Yes.”

He Was Right

We were alone.  No one

will find us here. He whispered

in my ear.

It was an old house

off of Ole’ 15. It was abandoned

maybe 20 years ago.

All that lay left

in the house,

was a tired, old mattress.

Which, him and I layed

upon – kissing. It started off

gentle, like he was afraid.

But, he gradually grew

deeper in to the moment.

I sat on his lap. I could feel him

In his jeans. Did I want to take it

this far? Oh, yes! He turned me over

on the mattress. And started kissing me

on my neck, down, all the way

to my toes. I found myself taking off

my shirt. He unbuttoned his pants.

One date,

and this already? No,

I have to stop this, before

it gets any further. Before

my hormones make up my mind for me.

He was starting to unbutton my blue-jeans

when I shout, “I can’t do this.” He looked

at me, aghast. Why?

It’s just, we had our first date today.

Do we really want

to go this far?”

Surprisingly, he was OK with it.

I just know,

next time,

I won’t stop him.
