"Well... We're here!" My mom cheerfully said over her shoulder to me. I looked up from my book to see that we had pulled up to a dark blue two story house. "Great. Can we move back to Florida now?" I grumbled, slamming my book shut.

My mom looked at me in her rearview mirror, giving me a stink eye. "At least give this place a chance. New York is supposed to be beautiful this time of year."

Grumbling, I opened the car to be slapped by a cold gust of air. "Jesus! You'd think they would remember to turn on the heat!" I complained, stomping to the house through the snow. My mom opened up the door, and I immediately saw that all of our stuff was in the house already. "The movers should have set up your room like you asked." She said, allowing me to silently walk by. Walking in, I saw a stairway to my left, and the hallway leading to the living room on my right. Rushing up the stairs, I walked into the room I would call mine, and cringed. "Does everything in the house have to be blue?" I growled under my breath, throwing my bag into a corner, staring at my room, which was the same exact color of blue as the outside.

Flopping into a chair by a oak desk,I noticed that my P.C.,one I had saved money for about five years, was sitting on top, with a note telling me that the WiFi was operational. Powering it on, I signed in and checked my social media. Seeing that no one was on, I turned my computer off in disgust. "Quin!" My mom called up. "Bed at eight tonight! Tomorrow, you're starting school!" Looking down at my phone, I saw it was about 7:30 p.m. "Yes ma'am!" I yelled down, walking over to my window and looking out.

Watching the show fall outside, I felt a cold breeze tickle my spine. Shivering, I turned away from the window to go and get ready for sleep.

The next morning...

Pulling into the parking lot, I looked at the building looming over my head. "This is Vooresville High?" I asked, looking at the wood and stone building in front of me. "Yep!" My mom said, getting out of the car. Groaning, I grabbed my book bag, and followed, jogging to keep up with my mom's quick pace. Entering the building, I was grateful for one of the things this place had to offer: heat. We walked down endless halls, until we reached the main office. "Wait here." My mom said, but I was already sitting down, sinking into a strangely comfortable chair and immediately dozing off.

"Comfy, aren't you?" A girls voice said, snapping me out of my stupor. "Come on, Ali! Don't scare the poor kid." A guys voice said, making me look in the direction of the voices. I noticed two kids, standing in front of me, both looking right at me. "Well?" The girl, who stood with her arms folded. "You gonna answer?" I shook my head, and stretched out, before standing up. "I was." I half yawned, looking down at the girl. I noticed that her hair had some extra colors in it, but I didn't really care. "Don't mind her, man. She's just messing with you. So.. you're new here, aren't you?" The kid asked, pushing his glasses up his nose. Nodding, I couldn't help noticing that I was slightly darker than the boy. "That explains it. That's the chair where kids go to wait to be called on." The boy continued, running a hand through his short hair. "Its supposed to make you comfortable and drowsy, before making you confess to whatever reason you're up here." I smiled, realizing that it wasn't a half bad idea. "So whats your name, Mr.Tall?" The girl asked, smiling at me. "I'm Quinton. Quinton McAuliffe." They both nodded, as if in approval. Before they could answer back, the door opened up behind me with a squeal, and I turned to see a woman about five feet seven inches stand in the doorway, looking about in her mid forties, wearing a pantsuit, and dark sunglasses

"Mr.McAuliffe." The woman said, her northern accent giving my name a almost drawl to it. "I'm Ms.Usher. The principal of this establishment. Good to meet you." I nodded, shaking her hand, and cringed slightly. My hand easily wrapped around her tiny hand, but I felt like I was grabbing a corpses hand, stiff and cold. Pulling my hand back, I took a paper from her, noticing that it was my class schedule. "And what more, our guides decided to show up." Ms.Usher said, causing the two kids to flinch slightly. "Mr... Ivan. Aliesa. Would you be so kind as to walking Quinton here to class? I have some matters to discuss with his mother." Getting the response she wanted, she briskly snapped back around, and shut the door, leaving me with mg bag, and two kids I never met until now. "Come on,kid." The girl,Aliesa, said, grabbing me and hauling me down the hall, leaving Ivan to catch up." You came at the right time. Today, we're going to be watching a movie in class!" I yanked my arm out of her grip and stared at her, allowing Ivan to catch up."How the hell do you know my classes? I don't even know them!" Aliesa grinned, holding up the paper I swore I had a minute ago. "Keep track of loose items here. I think you'll like it. Now come on!" Being grabbed again, now by both kids, I couldn't help laughing as I was pulled along, thinking I might enjoy New York after all.
