Chapter 4:

Cameron’s POV:

The whole night, I tossed and turned. So much had changed in so little time. We used to avoid people and other packs like the plague, but here we were traveling across Wyoming to live in the center of the state where most of the werewolves lived. The part I couldn’t fathom the most was how I had changed. Where did that timid girl go, that was always getting into trouble, and needing everyone else to fight her battles? Some things I couldn’t answer for myself, but some day those answers would come. I had just got out of the shower when Veva barged in. I covered my body with a towel, self-conscious of how I looked especially compared to her. She laughed at me, amusement lighting her features.

“Here, Walker gave me $100 to buy you guys some clothes.” She told me, as she tossed me pile. With a wink she left the bathroom still laughing at me.

I sighed, shaking my head. I snagged the underwear and bra putting them on. Veva knew exactly what I needed and exactly what I wanted. She knew how to do both. They were just pink and cotton but they suited me fine, the gray sports bra was more comfortable than anything with wires could be. I looked in the mirror tracing my outline with my eyes. Maybe, in time, I could appreciate what I had. But for now, I’ll just cover up. With that I snagged the blue jeans and pulled them on. They were light washed, and faded in the knees a little. The shirt wasn’t anything extravagant, just purple with a moose on it, reading ‘I Love Glenrock’. I opened the door and wandered towards my bed. On my bed was a black pair of flip flops.

Arik hopped up and bolted to the bathroom muttering something that sounded like, “I heard girls took forever.” Veva looked me over, her hair was braided, coming over one shoulder exposing her bare neck.

“What’re you looking at?” she asked, a devilish grin on her face. I blushed, embarrassed.

“Nothing,” I said, “just wondering why my hair isn’t long like yours anymore.” She stuck her tongue out at me.

“Sure,” she laughed, dragging out the u. Arik walked into the room, smelling clean, his hair still dripping.

“Honestly boy,” I chuckled, “gets some clothes on.” He smiled at me wickedly, pulling on a tank top, donning it with a forest green sweatshirt with the same moose and logo that was on my shirt. I glanced over at the clock, it read 7:51. I knew it was the morning even if it didn’t show.

“We best be signing you two out soon, no?”  Amelia asked. I smiled, she was back.

“Yeah, Walker’s going to being picking us up around eight,” Veva replied before anyone else could speak. She raised her eyebrows surprise crossing her features momentarily.

“To Sheridan, I suppose.” She spoke softly. This time it was Arik’s turn to speak, “Actually, no. We’re headin’ to Cody.”

“Oh,” was all she said. She turned to leave; before she departed she spun on her toes. “I’ve lived in Cody.” The look on my face was mirrored by the others. That was … odd. Veva thought. We sat there a couple moments more consumed by our own thoughts when the doctor entered the room. He handed Veva a release form, had her sign it a long with Arik and I and then dismissed us.

“I guess it’s time,” I said as we made our way to the exit. Somewhere it had been agreed that we’d meet Walker outside the hospital and begin our drive to Cody.

It seemed he had been waiting for us when we stepped outside. He was leaned casually against a white minivan in tan slacks and a light blue polo. He was reading a book, ‘How to Establish Presence at Your Work’. He looked up at us, grinning broadly.
