"Mr.Wil!" I say snapping him out of his questions.
"Sorry. I'm just very happy to see you and surprised your still taking my class. By now I would have imagined you in the city working with some of the greatest software engineers of this century." He says with a smirk on his face.
"Haha, very funny. You're a good teacher, but you still have a lot more to teach me before I go off designing flying cars." I joke.
" But seriously, have any cool adventures this summer? Meet any new friends?" He asks curiously.
"Still go the same amount of friends I had last year. It's at a whopping amount of 0." I reply.
He leans back against his desk with his arms crossed.
"Nora, high school should be a fun time in your life. Where you goof around and get into some trouble with your friends. You know, make some memories before you head to college. Maybe even have your first love." He acts so poetic when it comes to making memories with he people you care about.
"You mean how you "made memories" with Cassie in high school." I say with a smirk as I set my books at my table.
"Ouch, your sarcasm hurts." He replies. "Ok you got me on that one. I know that when I was your age I made some bad desicions and had a family before I was ready. I will admit that, but that is why I want better for you. I had to grow up really fast before college and even faster when I lost Cassie and I had to take care of Aiden and Emma on my own. Nora, you still have a lot going for you and I want you to make some friends this year. Ok?" He asks.
"I am not promising anything. Plus you know I'm not the best with people" I tell him.
His eyes light up like he got an idea. "I'll help you then!" He says.
"Oh no that won't be nessis-"
He cut me off. "Nonononono, you are getting my help. You know what? It's a new school year! That means new students. I'm checking my chart and if there are any new students they are going to sit next to you missy."
He makes his way back to his desk and takes a clipboard with the attendence out of the drawer. My heart beats fast thinking of being stuck with a new kid. It's not such a bad thing, but new kids will always ask so many questions and sticks with the first person they meet because they need to be shown around the school. I don't want to have to deal with that. He stares at his clip board and reads off the last names of students trying to find one he does'nt remember from last year.
"....Johnson, Kellar, Lee, Oakley, Raff, Vale, Witcher, and Zaret. Looks like there aren't any new student in my class year."
I breath a sigh of relief when he says those words. I'm the luckiest person alive right now.
"Now don't get too happy. I will still find a way to help you, just not right now." He says.
The bell rings and students flood into class one by one. I sit alone at my lab table for 2 happy with the fact that I now get to be alone this semester. The tables are set for 2 like a chemistry class. So the person next to you would be your lab partner. Mr. Wil always encourages us to have partners when we do our programing. He likes us to use teamwork. I set my books on the seat next to me while all the students come in. Trying to trick them into thinking that the seat next to me is already taken. Everyone takes there seats and there are only 3 seats available at the end, the completely empty table behind me and the seat next to me. Once everyone has quieted down Mr.Wil starts off the school year.
"Hello class and welcome to Computer Programing!" Mr.Wil says to the class with enthusiasm. "Now all of you were here last year so let's kick off where we left off? Andrew Lee! How can you automate the posting of rotating images form a computer to a website using Java?" He says quickly pointing to a boy in the back of the class."Ugh-Uuhuh-uuuhhh" and other mumbles are the only thing that comes out of his mouth.
"You didn't know it on the last day of school and still don't know it now. You got 8 months till the next last day Lee, don't expect to hide in the back forever. Find answers bud."
Mr.Wil walks back and begins to write the lesson on the board, but then turns around and asks a question in my direction.
"Lets start with the basics. Ms. Ruiz. Why do people do computer programming? Like as a career."
My eyes widen. I know the answer, but I hate speaking I front of the class. Everyone's eyes look towards me.
"It's the feeling of being able to control complexity. If you feel like you can handle something so confusing by knowing a few codes. And being able to creat different programs that help people with there everyday lives." I say this without even thinking.
Hopeing i did not sound nervous while speaking.
"Well of course the computer geek would know. Her only friend is probably her computer."
I would know that voice from anywhere. Ashley Kent has had it out for me since we were kids. I never knew exactly why she hates me, she had everything. She was your classic mean girl in highschool. She was the blonde, rich, beautiful, smart girl who got whatever she wanted growing up but still decides to be a bitch to others. Shes better then me at most things, but i can show her that in the computer room, this is my territory.
"I mean i think she even talks to her computer sometimes." She says sitting the row across from me. She gets a few giggles from random people in the room.
"That will be enough, Ms.Kent." Mr.Wil said.Sadly shes not wrong. Hax is one of my only friend and his main frame is in my computer. So technically you could say im best friends with my computer.
I chose to just ignore her and not let her get in the way of my first day back. I grabbed my head phones from my bag and give a little look to Mr.Will to tell him whats going on. He understands that i cant take much more, but still gives me a look that says "Just for today". I put on my headphones and block out the world around me, even the teaching. It not like we learn anything important on the first day anyways. I plugged the headphones into my phone and put up the soundtrack for the game Undertale. It always seemed to calm me down and its really good music (No srsly go check it out). I look down and start doodleing in my new notebook. I hear the faint sound of voices and a door closing, but I dont care enough to look up. I hear more mumbled voices and and then footsteps and then I feel taping on my shoulder. I look up to see a set of peircing blue eyes. The same blue eyes I had seen a few days before. The same eyes that got out of the passenger side of a jeep in our neighbors driveway. My eyes widened and I panicked."Mr.Will Im going to the bathroom." And I went out of the room as fast as I could.
I did not even here if he said ok. I went into the empty girls room and leaned against the wall. So much for a good first impression. Uuggh! I have got to stop doing this!
