Title: Cry me river
Genre: Werewolf, LGBT+
Summary: River grew up unwanted. Subjected to enough abuse in his short 16 years of life than most do in a lifetime, he began to believe in the harsh words thrown at him:
'Worthless'
'Unwanted'
'Ugly'
'Runt'
Ever since he was old enough to ask, his father has told him he doesn't have a mate and if he does, he's to be rejected. After all, who would want such a hideous, worthless mate. But River didn't care, even if rejected; just meeting his mate would be enough. Little does River know that one day he's to be sold off into slavery with only that little thread of hope to hold him together?
What happens when the lost their locks eyes with the sad, blue-eyed beauty he thought he'd never meet? Is rejection in the air? Will the lost heir be able to heal the poor blue-eyed beauty or will he remain forever broken?
Find out in Cry Me a River.
Review
First of I'd like to say that I really like the cover. It reminds me of the covers of Nora Robert's paperback novels. I also like the title. It sums up the novels essence perfectly.
I enjoyed the first chapter. It introduced the main character (River) very well. I got to know of his hardships and why he wasn't being treated fairly by the rest of the pack and especially his father.
I have to admit that I was a little surprised when River's father sold him out of the blue like that. The whole experience seemed rushed and you could catch on to the fact that the author didn't want to dwell on the scenario for too long. The chapter is followed by a then fast paced account of River's days in captivity. I enjoyed Alice as a character. She provided hope and a little humor in the rather gloomy mood of the book and I hope she'll eventually turn up in the novel yet again.
A ray of hope and happy times comes with the arrival of River's royal mate Alastair. The other side characters were also quite entertaining (Michael, Izzy, Derek...); their back stories compliments the main plot perfectly.
I didn't like the King very much (don't worry; I'm not supposed to like him.) He succeeded in causing a little storm in River and Alastair's Relationship.
That's all I can say since the book isn't completed. If I wanted to have anything changed in this novel it would be the plot pacing. It would be nicer if it was a little slower and the scenes were more elaborated. I also felt like the author didn't do a lot of research on the old kingdom scenery she placed her characters in.
Ratings
Grammar: 8.5 (Apart from a few typos the grammar was good.)
Plot progression: 5, (Some scenes in the story seemed rushed, and I just feel the story would be a lot better if it were slower paced.)
Character buildup: 9 (I definitely loved the characters, no explaining that.)
Average ratings: 7.5
