"I tried to send him a message, but he didn't even read it," Aria sighed as she fell backwards onto my bed.

"Maybe he's just at work, he'll probably read it later," Skylar said.

"Well before things get depressing I am going to get some snacks," I stood up to leave the room.

"I'll help you," Haven offered, following me out the door," I thought Raine would be here by now. "

"Nah, she wanted to stay for some extra hockey meeting, and her school finishes later than ours anyway."

"I still cant believe she left us," Haven added, shaking her head.

"Well, what can you do?"
Haven stuck her foot out in front of me when we reached the bottom step, trying to trip me up, but I just jumped over her jeg onto the floor, smirking at her.

"Tsk tsk H. Ever so predictabled," I laughed. Haven was one of the best friends a girl could possibly want, the others sitting upstairs chatting animatedly or at some sports match thing. Her curly brown hair bounced up and down as she skipped behind me to the kitchen, grinning like a lunatic. "Now come on, help me choose what to give these people to eat."

"The real question is what I want to eat. Those people can never just decide on one thing," she said rather matter-of-factly.
"Well then, what do you want to eat?"

"well what do you-" Haven was interrupted by the TV suddenly blaring at an unearthly volume.

"I knew we should have switched that dam thing off," I muttered to myself as I made my way to the living room to switch it off, but the sudden emergency broadcast made me stop dead.

"The owners of the laboratories have just confirmed the escape of Patient X4," the static voice of the female news reporter came through.

I heard a faint whisper of 'what the hell?' from Haven who was standing at my right shoulder. I for one couldn't believe the news myself, I mean it sounded like it came out of some horribly cheesy apocalypse movie. I actually checked what channel the transmitter was set to, to make sure we were getting the actual news.

It was legitimate .

"Patient X4 is unusual case, being an individual infected with a rare virus. The infected, formerly known as Tale Hills' own Peter Walker was admitted into the lab's care last month when his strange behaviour and symptoms left doctors completely stumped. Witnesses report that on the evening of the 7th of May, when Walker came home from his work underground, he declared he was feeling dizzy and had a high fever. After an hour he was supposedly acting agitatedly and had an uncontrollable craving for meat. At around 7 pm that night Walker was said to have lost all bearings and was extremely violent, attacking his wife and daughter, leaving them with minor injuries. Neighbours who had heard the commotion called the police, and walker was taken into custody. Doctors were called in to examine his symptoms and strange behaviour, when he lashed out and killed Dr. Michael Jenkins. It was reported by the deputy Sheriff who was on duty that night, that Walker "went completely crazy and ripped the doctor's throat out with his teeth". Walker was then admitted into the Tale Hills' lab for further testing, which proved unsuccessful. He remained there for exactly a month, until last night, when it seems he had broken out of his holding cell and has yet to be seen since. The authorities advise careful behaviour and requests that any persons who might have further information contact them immediately."

There might have been more news after that but I was too shell shocked to listen.

It had to be a joke, or a couple high school kids playing a dumb prank. It was just to ridiculous to believe...

But my heart completely gave up when Haven barely whispered, "Hunter, doesn't your dad work at the lab?..."
