This chick must have never been to America before. She is looking around the marked spot of Hallsville like it was something special. Honestly, there isn't much here. I don't think she realises how much trouble we are in, or that I saw the royal badge of Genova on the sleeve of her sweater. "Hey, what's this other dot for," she says gesturing to the blue dot placed in Los Angeles. "Well," I say, trying not to get frustrated at the kid, "that's where I think they took your brother and the other supers. I saw that the truck the soldiers took to that fair had a California licence plate." "Well, couldn't it be anywhere in California then?" I stand up from the couch and walk out of the room. She is probably right. Of all the places in California, why would it be in LA? Honestly, at least California is a start. "ROBBIE!" I yell to get the kid's attention. He never told me that his mom was killed, but I've been lied to enough to know how to read between the lines. Robbie speeds into the room I'm in and jumps onto my back knocking me down. "Sneak attack!" He says laughing. I push him off of me, laughing as well. "Kid, did your mom have a car?" Robbie stared up at me and nodded. He was quieter than most kids I know, but I feel like he has a lot going on in his head. "Why do you need a car?" Robbie asks me suspiciously. I rubbed his head through his thick curly hair. "We're going to California." I say as enthusiastically as I can. I never was much of an actress. "Let me get the keys." Robbie says quietly. As he leaves the room I sigh. I can't drive. We don't have the money to get gas. I fiddle with the golden badge in my pocket. I could sell this... I throw the badge onto the tile. It's disgusting I would even think of doing that. This hunk of metal is probably damn important to Ruby. I pull off the sweater I am wearing to reveal my crop top. Robbie walks into the room again and hands me the keys. "Thanks," I say, but he is already leaving the room. The keys have three key chains, each with a flower and the name of a child. Robbie, Jamie, and Alec. Did Robbie have brothers? I dismiss the idea. Robbie would've told me. Or....would he? I shake my head. I walk outside and press the button on the car key twice, making the lights of the black impala flash. I open the door and sit behind the steering wheel. I take my small wallet out from my pocket and put it on my thigh. I pull out Joan's drivers license. Her and Iooked similar enough, except she was only three years older than me. She didn't need to die. She was only 21. I punch the car's glove box, accidentally pushing it open. I see a faint glimmer of silver. I shovel through the box, trying to find it. I see the silver item and turn away in disgust. It was an anti super badge. But, this is Robbie's Mom's car, she must've known her kid was a super, right? I turn back towards the badge and pick it up. Engraved on the badge said: Rosa P. Waters: Senior Officer of the Anti Super Association. I notice there is a pink paper attached to the badge. I tear the badge from the corner of the paper and begin to read. MS. ROSA WATERS, WE HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY INFORMED THAT THE GENE FOR SUPERS HAS BEEN DISCOVERED TO BE VERY HIGH IN YOUR FAMILY BY MR. ROBERT WATERS SR. NOW THAT YOU HAVE RESIGNED FROM OUR WORKPLACE OUR SUSPICIONS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED. YOU ARE A SUPER, AS WELL AS YOUR CHILD ROBERT WATERS JR. AND THE TWO YOU ARE CARRYING. YOU HAVE TWO DAYS TO LIVE. IF YOU LEAVE, WE WILL FIND YOU MS. WATERS. SINCERELY, JOSHUA SIMONS CO FOUNDER OF THE ANTI SUPER ASSOCIATION. Rosa wasn't bad. And she was pregnant....I can't tell Robbie. He'd be scarred... I step out of the car and leave the door open. "Ruby, you coming? We need to get to LA and find that brother of yours." I yell. Ruby comes out side with Robbie following her. She's already had a complete change of clothes, and let's just say I can tell she is best friends with hair spray. Robbie hops into the back and puts on his seat belt. Ruby opens the passenger door and sits down next to me. I probably wouldn't mind her if she didn't change the radio to the pop station as soon as she came in. "Whoever is driving picks the radio," I say as I turn on a nineties rock station. "Whatever," Ruby says blankly pulling her iPhone from her pocket. I back out of the driveway as Brain Stew by Green Day begins to play. I start tapping my right foot to the beat of the drums and I turn to see how Ruby is doing. She was staring at me, and quickly turned away blushing. I smiled. "So, uh, how's that royalty stuff going?" I ask, trying to start some conversation. "That's none of your business." Ruby muttered stubbornly. "Fair enough," I say smiling. As I see the sign saying YOU ARE NOW LEAVING HALSVILLLE MISSOURI, COMW BACK SOON! A figure ran straight in front of our car, and before I knew it I heard a loud bang as our car slowed. "You hit him!" Ruby yelled. "Thanks for stating the obvious, princess," I say storming out of the car. The person we hit is a teenage boy, and he is resting in a pool of his own blood. He groans and stands up, blood on several parts of his jeans and tank top. "Shit," he says loudly. "I'm never gonna get these stains out." He looks up at me and tries to punch me in the stomach. I grab his pale fist before it makes contact. He looks up at me with his big blue eyes. "Are you a super too?" He asks me quietly. "Yes," I say still gripping his fist, "Now who are you running from, kid." The boy scowls and drags his fist away. "You can't help me. And don't call me kid. I'm as old if not older than you. I have a name you know...it's Aaron." He flips his purple hair and begins to walk away. "Wait," I yell to him, "I can help you." Aaron turns and faces me. As he walks toward me I suddenly realize how tall he is. He stops walking an Arms length away from me, and I have to look up to meet his eyes. "Can you really help me? You look like the kind of girl who helps every single Sally Sobstory she meets." Aaron says in his deep, smooth voice. "That's me." I say, smiling. "But that's just what makes me special. What can I do for you k- Aaron?" Aaron pulls a picture from his jeans pocket and shows me a picture of a girl with black hair and striking features. "She's a bit young to be your girlfriend, isn't she?" I ask laughing. Aaron blushes and shoves the picture back into his pocket. "She's not my girlfriend. She's my best friend. Her name is Violet, and we were at home last night and we heard the ASA, so we ran into the woods, but we got separated, and-" I put my finger to his mouth. "Relax, Aaron. We will find her." Aaron sits down beside the road. "Wait here, I'm gonna get the kids." I say heading toward the car. "Kids? This is way too dangerous for kids." Aaron scowls. "Then why are you coming?" I mutter quietly. Ruby turned away from the window as she saw me approaching. Robbie was asleep in the backseat with his ear pressed against the window. As I got in the car, Ruby began glancing between me and Aaron. I turned off of the road and parked the car behind some trees. "Where are you going?" Ruby asked as I stepped out of the car. "Well, i have to help our new 'friend'." I say stubbornly. "If anyone asks what you are doing here, tell them you are playing hide and seek." I close the door, leaving the keys inside. I immediately hear pop music faintly playing. Stupid princess is gonna waste the battery... Aaron stands up as I get closer to him. "We going?" He asks in a perky tone. "Obviously." I begin walking through the woods as Aaron trails three feet behind me. As we go deeper, you can hardly see the sky. "Y' know," Aaron said, "I never did get your name." "Probably because I didn't give it." I say smugly. Aaron chuckles a little at that one. "It's Kendra. Kendra W. Wood." "Really? With the middle initial?" Aaron asks laughing. I familiar scent stops me in my tracks. "You smell it too?" Aaron asks. "Yea. It smells like propane." I kneel down to the floor and see marks in the dirt. They look like they came from a truck. "Which way did they go?" Aaron asks me. "Probably this way," I say gesturing deeper into the woods. "How do you know?" "I don't know." I follow the tracks continuing even further away from the road. I here something snap behind me and turn around. Aaron blushed and shrugged. Scowling, I continued walking. Every tree and bush seemed to be watching me. Every step I took sent chills up my spine. For all I know, Aaron may not be a super. He could've staged that car accident. I suddenly see a small building. Aaron runs up to it and begins to bang on the metal door, cutting up his hand. In a pink blur his cuts were immediately gone, but left small scars. I push him from the door. "What the hell, Aaron, what are you-" I am suddenly cut off by six soldiers rushing out of the door and shooting me in the breast. Even if it doesn't kill me, that doesn't mean there isn't pain. I kicked the guns away from one of the soldiers and shot two more as they ran from the building. I turned to face the other three soldiers, but Aaron had already taken care of it. I collapse from pain. No blood is coming from the wounds but the bullets are still inside of me. Aaron gets on his knees and tears off my crop top. "Rapist!" I yell as he pulls my sports bra over my head. As he puts his cold hand on my breast, it's replaced by a sudden warmth. All the pain is gone. I look into Aaron's deep blue eyes. "Are you okay?" He asks nervously. I put my arms around his neck and kiss him hard. His lips are warm, and his skin is smooth. I take a break for air and he pulls me in again and rubs my hair. As we slowly pull apart he looks at me with an almost concerned look. "Damn, your a good kisser." He says quietly. "Yea, I know." I laugh as I put my bra back on. I reach for my crop top. It's completely torn down the middle. Whatever. A black sports bra is basically the same thing. I stand up, and I turn toward the door. I step inside the building. Stupid ass soldiers left it wide open. As Aaron trots in behind me, I know that the kiss meant something. I faced him as we got close again. I could feel his breath against me and I could see my reflection in his eyes. "You know," he said, "this isn't just a one time thing." I smile at him. "I didn't want it to be." As I close in for another kiss, I hear loud footsteps running down the hallway. It was Violet, with a teenage boy. Aaron backed himself against the other wall, blushing. "Violet!" Aaron shouts awkwardly. "Who's your friend?" "There's no time- we need to leave." Violet says. I can sense the urgency in her voice, but her voice is so quiet and soft. I run out of the building. "Follow me!" I yell. Violet gives Aaron a look, but he nods subtly. I run off in the direction of the car, stepping softly so I don't leave tracks. I hear a dog bark in the distance. "They're gaining on us!" The boy yells. I see the car and pick up my pace. I knock on the window, and Ruby quickly opens the door. I unlock the two back doors as Violet, Aaron, and the boy squeeze in next to Robbie. I slam on my gas and chuckle as I see the unit dogs chasing behind me. Another job well done.
