The cat detective sighed and trudged up the stairs to her apartment, her white tipped tail dragging on the floor behind her. She took out her keys and put one in the lock of her doorknob when she heard the hoppity-hop of rabbit feet. She looked to her right to see officer Judy Hopps, coming up the stairs with Nick Wilde. She talked a mile a minute while the fox just listened with a cool expression about him. They walked up the stairs and Judy stuck a key into the apartment door 225A. Von-Locke's door was 223A. She gulped and continued unlocking her door, praying that they wouldn't see her, since she had no desire of speaking to anyone. But the pair of officers had spotted her.
"Detective Von-Locke?" Judy smiled and bounced over to the detective, her little pink nose twitching in excitement.
"Hi," she said, trying to keep her irritation hidden.
"I didn't know you lived in these apartments, this is so cool!" Judy grinned and clapped her paws together. "Nick lives in the apartment down the hall: 219B." The bunny cop nudged her partner to say something, but he kept quiet.
"Ya that's pretty cool. Well I'm really tired guys I'll have to talk to you tomorrow-"
"Cats; always tired." Nick mumbled to himself as he began to walk away.
"What's your problem with me Wilde?" The cat's green eyes flashed."Nothing. I thought you said you were tired." He stuck his hands in his pockets and walked off.
"I'm really sorry about him, he can be a real chore sometimes." Judy sighed and gave the cat an apologetic gaze. "I'll talk to him about it later.""No it's fine, we all have our bad days," the black cat shrugged and opened her door. "I'll see you later Judy."
She sighed when the bunny left, and she stepped into her small apartment. She threw off her coat and tossed it onto the couch and headed for her bedroom when she heard a voice behind her.
"I've always wondered why cats are always tired." Nick Wilde sat back on the couch with his head tilted toward her.
The cat jumped back, her heart pounding, but she momentarily regained her composure.
"We're not always tired. I just didn't get enough sleep last night. And how did you get in here?" She searched the room for a possible attachment of their apartments; the vent.
Nick ignored her and flung his legs over the arm of the sofa.
"I never had a problem with you. You always had a problem with me, ever since we were kids. You always did dis me."
"That's because you teased me all the time. Now get out of my apartment.""Oh yes, it's so fun to tease you, you would always fall for it-"
"Not anymore you jerk; get out before I send you out with scratch marks and bullet holes." She huffed as she took a step forward.
"Aw, c'mon Brook, you wouldn't do that to me. We're friends, remember?" Nick stood up and faced her.
"Reassure yourself all you want. I'll murder you before I ever call you my friend." She crossed her arms and laid her ears flat. "Get out."
"Fine, fine I see how it is. Reject your childhood friend and con artist partner in crime so that you can get your sleep." He began going for the door.
"First of all, you were never my friend, you were my brother's friend, and secondly, you were the one that betrayed me when we were artists in crime. So goodbye." She pushed him out the door and locked it behind him. On the outside of the door, Nick smiled, and chuckled to himself: she's just the same as she always was.Judy's POV ~
I walked up to Nick's door and knocked on it. He answered after a minute and smiled.
"What's up Carrots?"
"What is your deal? You totally just blew her off!"
"I did not, she blew me off." Nick leaned against the door post and crossed his arms.
"You can at least be nice to her. She's probably just shy 'cuz she doesn't know us. Give her some time."
"Well Carrots, you may have forgotten, but cats and foxes don't exactly get along."
"I've never heard of that. As far as I'm concerned, foxes and cats were best friends." I crossed my arms and glared at him. "I know your trying to make excuses Nick, and it's not working."
"Well then get her to lighten up a bit." Nick turned and put his paw on the door, "I'll see you tomorrow Judy." He closed it, and left me standing there, totally confused.********
It was the middle of the night and the black cat in apartment 223A couldn't sleep. She had already blocked the vent so that Nick couldn't get in, but it bothered her even still.
They had known each other for a long time, and it bothered her to think about that day when everyone had gone away, and how each kitten had forgotten the word family and friends for a time. It seemed like they still didn't remember the word friend. But she wondered that maybe, she could learn that word again.
