Prepare for Battle

Marinette was patient until that afternoon, when she transformed into her Ladybug persona and then headed towards Adrian's home.
She'd been inside only a few times, but had wandered around it's grounds, hoping for a glimpse of her crush even more.

She paused on the porch, then knocked on the door.

After a moment, the door barely opened, Mr. Agreste's assistant peeking out. "Yes?"

"Excuse me, but I need to speak with Adrian."

"I'm sorry Ladybug, but Adrian's ill and can't see visitors."

"Are you sure about that?" Ladybug asked.

There was a pause, then the door opened more and Nathalie motioned for her to come in. "I'm sorry, Ladybug...I'm trying to avoid too much attention being brought to the situation."

"Understandable. But what exactly happened?"

"I haven't seen Mr. Agreste or Adrian since yesterday, when Adrian went to his room and Mr. Agreste to his office. I remember hearing Mr. Agreste shouting at someone, but I wasn't about to disturb him. Then last night they were both just...gone!"
She faced Ladybug again. "How did you know Adrian was missing?"

Ladybug sighed. "I have reason to believe that Hawkmoth is in fact Mr. Agreste. If I'm wrong, then I'm going to feel very stupid and ashamed, but-"

"That might actually be true."

"You think so?"

Nathalie sighed. "Mr. Agreste is not the same man he was before Mrs. Agreste left... I was her friend, then one night she came and told me to watch over Adrian...then she was gone into the night.
So I got hired as Mr. Agreste's assistant, to keep an eye on Adrian and ensure nothing happened to him. And believe me, it has not been easy."

"Do you have any idea where they might've gone?"

"If Mr. Agreste is Hawkmoth, then he must have a hideout somewhere up high..."
Nathalie snapped her fingers. "Mr. Agreste's downtown studio has an observatory that only he goes into. That would be a good place to look."

"Thank you." Ladybug turned to head out, until Nathalie put her hand on her shoulder. "Hmm?"

"Ladybug... I hope you and Chat can fix this..."

Ladybug nodded. "Me too..."

"Come on, Chat. Eat something...!"

Adrian looked away from the food his father had left for him hours earlier.
His father must be sleeping somewhere, because his kwami had managed to sneak away to Adrian.
The little violet creature now hovered by him, attempting to coax him into eating.

"I'm not hungry..." Adrian whispered, though his hurting stomach said otherwise.
All he wanted was to go home and be an ordinary kid again... Not locked up in a dark space by his father, a supercriminal intent on destroying the world.

The butterfly kwami sighed, then settled down on the floor. "I don't like being here either..."

"So why not leave?"

"He is my master. I must remain loyal, even if he uses my power for evil purposes... That's why Plagg will come for you... He's loyal to you."
He floated back up again. "I must go, but please eat something. You'll need your strength to escape when the time comes."

As the kwami vanished into the darkness, Adrian sighed and took a bite out of the bread. He was right. Plagg would come back, and when he did, Adrian was getting out of here.

"So what exactly is your plan...?"

"I go into the observatory and look around. If Hawkmoth is here, he'll go after me, then you let Plagg go and find Adrian while Hawkmoth's distracted."

"It's not the best plan, but it's a plan."

"I formulate fashionable outfits, not rescue missions. Give me a break...!"
Ladybug looked to Alta, giving a grin. "Well... Here goes."

Alya watched her best friend swing up the wall then disappear behind it, then shook her head. "I cannot believe my best friend is a superhero..."

Plagg squirmed out of Alya's pocket. "I can't believe it took me telling her for her to discover Adrian is Chat Noir...!" He groaned. "I hope he's okay..."

Alya winced as she heard a loud crash, then nodded. "Speaking of Adrian, I'll take that as the signal for you to go find him."

Plagg nodded, then flew away from Alya and up towards the tower.
He hovered around the tower, then phased into the tower, finding himself in a hall that split off into several directions.
"Ugh! How am I supposed to know which way to go!?"

Suddenly he yelped as a pair of hands cupped around him.

"Then let me help you..."
