Family and friends safely back to which ever one of the four corners of the planet they lived in, I was packing my case ready for a two-day course in Manchester. The majority of the comms team were going, which was basically Josh, Gemma and Lizzie and I. We were learning a new technique to manage social media more easily. All Josh knew was that we were going to be doing A LOT of drinking...water and coffee. After the course I was flying back home to Monaco for a week. Friends were joining me there for some more coffee drinking.
The rain hit against the window and dribbled down the glass. As I watched, the drops became more frequent and the intensity picked up. I was left to make a big decision- blue jumper or black jumper? There wasn't room for both in my case. Seeing as we were going in Josh's car, there wasn't much room for cases at all.
Hmmmmmm, black it was. The weather definitely wasn't great in the UK compared to the rest of the continent where you could get away with a t-shirt (unless you were Australian and lived in three-thousand layers).
In the black jumper went and a couple of pairs of skinny jeans. Thankfully, it was a casual dress code for the course so I wouldn't have to iron my skirt suit. I didn't really fancy doing that when I could have been spending important time with Daniel. I wasn't going to see him for nine days. NINE DAYS...practically a lifetime as far as I was concerned.
"Hey, wanna hand?" talking of the Devil, he bounded into our bedroom in Milton Keynes and flashed me a grin, revealing his incredibly white teeth. And dimples.
"I think I'm just about done," I replied, putting my washbag in and moving it off the bed so Daniel would be able to pack his own case. God knows what he was going to take to a village in the middle of nowhere! What if he got bitten by a snake? Or spider? He'd probably post a picture of it on Instagram and send me a Snapchat.
As I went to walk round the other side of the bed, I took a little trip but saved myself in time. Proud, so very proud. Saskia-one, rug on the floor- nil.
"Shit, I'm gonna miss you falling over," Daniel however found it all too funny. It was alright though, he still held his arms out in case I was going to take a full on tumble.
"Yup, well, someone is ditching me for ages!" Despite the Aussie wrapping me in a tight hug, I tried my hardest to pretend to be pissed off. "Oh, you're wearing my favourite top and smell of you and-" Daniel gently shrugged me off, stripping off his top. Yes, I nearly did fall over again.
"Take it with you," he insisted, holding out the fabric. I took it, shook my head and put it in my case, ignoring how we seemed like uni students going home for the holidays. "Just don't vomit on it..."
"I'm not going to be drinking!" I said in my defence. "Can I sleep in it, pretty please?"
"Bullshit, Saskia!" Daniel laughed, pulling me back into his rock-hard abs. Hard life. "I'm expecting a picture of you in it if you wear it to bed..."
---
"Stop moping otherwise I'm not going to share a room with you!" Lizzie told me firmly, letting me carry both of our cases up to the reception desk of the hotel. The reception had a bit of a funny smell- musty. It wasn't the usual greeting we were used to receiving when we were spoilt abroad.
I should have been worried seeing as Paul had booked our accommodation whilst Lizzie had been suffering with da baby. Unfortunately, I was in a bit of a shite mood after saying goodbye to Daniel. I had thought I'd be fine without seeing him for a few days (OVER A FUCKING WEEK), but four hours in and already I was trying desperately hard not to send him a text message. We were trying to see how long we could go.
However, I knew that he was with the lads and desperately needed time to relax and rewind after being stressed to the max with work, fitness plans and Lizzie. Lizzie who had been driving us all crazy, pregnant or not! He didn't need me bleating like a sheep.
