So after my anxiety attack yesterday, I thought I’d do something different today, just to keep my mind off things. Mum called Jay over. She always does that every time something like this happens to me. I’m not complaining, it helps a lot really but it’s just that sometimes I feel like I’m annoying him or maybe he thinks I’m trying to seek attention. He doesn’t say it but I feel like he’s holding back. One of my many talents, if I say so myself, is that I’m great at observing.
I took my shirt off and wore another one, actually my favourite one. My Game Over shirt. Even though it barely fits me now, I don’t let mum throw it away cause she knows if she did I’d throw a tantrum. I looked at the clock, 8:30pm. I heard a knock at the door. Right on time.
‘Hey’ said Jay as he walked in closing the door behind him. I gave him a nod. ‘God Nathan get rid of that shirt for Christ’s sake!’
‘Never’ I chuckled.
‘Of course.’ Jay laughed, plopping on my bed. ‘So what do you wanna do today?’
‘I…i don’t know’ I said putting my hair up into a quiff.
‘You’re boring.’ He teased ‘By the way, Jennifer’s here too.’
‘Where?’ I asked.
‘Outside’ he said.
‘Why is she ou…outside?’ I asked.
‘Your mum told me you had another attack yesterday.’ Jay said, playing with the Rubik’s cube that was usually sat on my bedside table.
I nodded my head. ‘Forget it.’ I mumbled grabbing my jacket.
‘You feeling better now?’ he asked. I nodded my head again. ‘You sure? Cause we’re not going if you lie to me.’
‘Promise.’ I said, pulling my jacket over my shoulder.
‘Okay, good!’ he said putting the Rubik’s cube back on it’s usual place ‘Let’s go then!’ he said getting up.
I left the room and Jay followed me. I saw Jennifer sitting alone.
‘Hey lil Nath!’ she smiled at me, getting up. I waved at her.
‘We’re leaving Mrs Sykes!’ Jay said out loud ‘Did she hear us?’
I nodded my head giggling a bit. Even if she didn’t hear Jay, I’m pretty sure she knew. We usually go out like this.
All three of us got in Jay’s car. It smelled of mint in there.
‘So where are we going tonight?’ Jennifer asked Jay.
‘Karaoke?’ Jay asked.
‘Nice joke.’ I mumbled.
‘Emma’s throwing a party at her place tonight!’ Jennifer said, looking at her phone.
Jay turned around and looked at me ‘What do you say Nath?’ he asked. Jennifer looked at me too. I shrugged.
‘You think you can handle it?’ he asked ‘If you can’t then it’s fine we can go somewhere else.’
I didn’t know if I could ‘handle it’ but I want to take risks, I want to improve myself. It was number one on my new year’s resolution list ‘Take risks’. I didn’t hesitate and just nodded my head.
‘Okay.’ I said, smiling awkwardly.
‘You sure?’ Jennifer asked me again. I nodded my head again, feeling a smile spread across my face.
‘Okay! Let’s do this!’ Jay cheered, putting the car in ignition. Jennifer squealed and clapped her hands as Jay laughed at her reaction.
After ten to fifteen minutes we were outside Emma’s house. Emma was this popular girl at my last school. She had brown hair with brown eyes but she wasn’t the typical popular girl type. She was actually very nice and got along with almost the whole school. I had a crush on her back then but it faded away with time. She helped me through a lot in school. She tutored me for three months and thanks to her I got an A in History for the first time. She even stood up for me once when I was being bullied by the school football team. So she’s pretty amazing that way.
