It’s okay Nathan, calm down. She won’t eat you. You know you been waiting for this, just DON’T screw up, I told myself over and over again in my head.

‘She’s coming here.’ Tom elbowed me, getting excited like he usually does.

‘Hey,’ she smiled standing right in front of me.

I looked up at her then immediately looked down at my feet. I was going to screw this up, just wait and watch.

‘Hey,’ said Jay who was sitting opposite to me, instantly catching her attention.

‘Oh hi,’ she smiled awkwardly at him, turning away from me.

Why do I always do this? I actually like this girl but then I go ahead and fuck things up. This is just great. I thought Max said it was going to be ‘a night I won’t want to forget’ well, guess what? I can’t wait for it to end.

‘I’m Jay and this is Jennifer.’ Jay said. ‘I think we take History together?’

‘Hi I’m Alicia’ she said with a little wave as I peeked from the corner of my eye. ‘And yea I think we do.’

‘I knew I had seen you before! I was right.’ Jay smiled.

‘You were indeed.’ She said smiling. This was so awkward.

‘That’s Max’ he said pointing next to Jennifer ‘That’s Siva, Tom and Nathan.’ He continued pointing at all of us one by one.

‘Hey Alicia,’ Max, Siva and Tom said in unison.

I just waved awkwardly, obviously not looking at her. I hate myself. I was so angry at myself for letting this slip away from my hands so easily. Opportunities like these don’t come every day for me. I have to be lucky for these sort of things to happen and I was just good at messing with my luck as far as I know.

I started to feel uneasy, my hands started sweating and my heartbeat got faster so without thinking further and basically making myself look like a complete idiot in front of Alicia I stood up from my seat and ran outside. Why was this so hard for me?

I ran towards our car and kicked at the tires once I reached it. I hit it with such force that my right foot started to hurt. I resisted to punch the side mirror and leaned against the car holding my head in my hands cause it was pounding with pain. I sat down and felt a tear trickle down my cheek. Why was I crying?

‘Nathan!’ I heard Max from a distance.

I wiped my tears away and tried to calm myself down.

‘Nath’ he said panting, sitting down in front of me and pulling me in a hug.

‘Leave me alone.’ I mumbled.

‘Mate, it’s okay.’ He whispered.

‘Just go’ I muttered looking at him, breathing heavily.

He looked at me. I’m pretty sure he figured out I cried cause my nose turns red even before I start crying. See? Nothing about me is normal.

‘Hey stay calm’ He said.

I nodded my head. He rubbed my hands because it was freezing cold outside. Fortunately I did not have another attack.

‘Wow, your hands are freezing!’ he said.

My breathing got a bit normal. I calmed down. I was getting a hold of this now.

‘So…you like that Alicia girl?’ he asked quietly.

‘No.’ I shook my head.

‘Really? You think you can hide that from me?’ he smirked.

I pushed him away laughing a bit. He laughed too as he fell backwards but balanced himself on his hands.
