Day One
"Why do you need the towns map?" Aiden asked.
"It's complicated" she said shoving a knife in her backpack.
"What do you need a knife for? and why are you packing?" he asked again with the most confused expression but she gave him a silent treatment. "Are you going somewhere?" he asks
"I told you Aiden, it's complicated" she replied picking up her backpack.
"Where are you going Zaff?" he asked, yet, another question.
"What the hell is wrong with you Aiden? I told you its complicated so just leave me alone" she said and turned around to leave. He held her arm dragging her back.
"No Zaffira. I will not leave you alone, just tell me what the hell has you all freaked out" he said with a worried face, she knew she had to tell him now.
She sighed, a very deep sigh, and sat down on the couch behind her, where her mother was left yesterday.
"You really wanna know?" she asks weakly. Aiden nods.
"A strange man came to my house yesterday, his name was Logan Wade, he poisoned my mother and if I don't find a stupid magical crystal for him in three days my mother will die" she whisper-yelled.
Aiden sits in awe, he has nothing to say. What are you supposed to say when your best friend's mother is poisoned because of some magical feud between people you don't even know?
"Zaff... I'm really sorry. We should tell my dad" he said getting to his feet.
"No" she sighed.
"We can't tell the police. They'll just kill her" tears threatened to spill.
"And I can't bear to lose her Aiden" she broke into a sob.
Aiden sat beside her and let her cry into his shoulder as he held her closer to him.
"If you have to do this..." he holds her shoulders at arm's length making her look at him.
"Then I'll be here to help, always" he assured her.
Zaffira smiled and wiped her tears. She then got up and picked up her backpack.
"Let's start with the grill" she said and off they went to search for the crystal.
****
"Finally, you guys show up" Jo said as they walk through the door.
"We're not here to work, Jo, We're just looking for something" Aiden said to the short balding man that probably can't keep up with his teenage employees.
"You can't just do that. You cannot take a day off without consulting me first, I'm your boss" he says, clearly annoyed and tired.
"Well, sorry boss" Aiden simply said as he began searching for the crystal.
Zaffira didn't have time to chit-chat; she began looking the second she got in.
After almost two hours of searching The Grill the pair found nothing and decided to move on with their mission and look elsewhere.
They get in Aiden's car and Zaff pulls out the map.
"Let's look in school" he suggested. Zaffira agreed and they drove over to the school.
They climb out of the car and head in.
"I'll take the left wing and you take the right wing ad we'll meet up at the auditorium" Zaffira instructed and headed in her own direction leaving Aiden.
She searched through the classes, the janitor's closet, and the toilets. She got to the principal's office but it was locked. So she had to use her hair pin to unlock it and rummage through his office finding nothing.
Finally she went to the auditorium and found Aiden looking under the seats.
"I've got nothing" he shrugged regrettably saying the words.
Zaffira broke down into tears falling to the ground, Aiden rushed and sat beside her holding her once again in his arms.
"I'll never find it Aiden. I can't save my mother" she said catching her breath.
"We will find it Zaffira. All you need to do is get a good night rest and we'll start bright and early tomorrow 'cuz it's getting dark" he said softly.
"No, Aiden. I won't sleep. I have to keep looking, I have to find that crystal" she said getting up and wiping her tears.
"No, Zaffira, look at you. You look tired and worn out. If you won't sleep or rest then we should look for something to help your mum, to subside the poison" the second he closes his mouth the phone Zaffira was given began to ring.
She took it out of her pocket and put it on speaker phone as she answered.
"Hello Zaffira" Logan's horrible voice came through the phone.
"What" she replied in annoyance.
"I just wanted to tell you we didn't trust to leave your mother at that house alone, since we knew you would be out searching all day, so your mother is with us now" he said and Zaffira gasped with both fear and frustration.
"So, no funny business. You find that crystal you bring it to me, then you get your mother back in mint condition" he laughed his cruel laugh.
"You bastard! Where did you take her?" Aiden spoke.
"Oh, so you're not alone? Just make sure your little friend doesn't utter a word or else-"
"He won't say anything" she cuts him of.
"Very well then. When you find it call me" he said and hung up.
"It's okay Zaffira, we will find it. But we really need to go home" he said.
He attempts to take her hand but she moves.
"I don't wanna disturb your parents" she said shoving the phone back into her pocket.
"I won't sleep anyway, so let's just go to my house and I can check again while you rest" she added heading to the exit.
Aiden knows he won't change her mind and he takes out his phone and texts his mother telling her he'll be staying at Zaffira's for the night.
They arrive at the Payne residence and head inside. Zaffira feels tightness in her stomach and she holds in her tears.
Knowing her mother won't be on her recliner reading her book and sipping her tea, kills Zaffira and she feels maybe she can sleep, to take all pain away before tomorrow.
i just hope they find the crystal very soon.😔😢
But what if they don't get it? That means......😱😰😲 Cora will die😭
