Day three
They spent the whole night searching her mother's shop. It was her last day. If she didn't present the crystal to Logan her mother would die and she would not know how to move on.
It was well past noon and Aiden had managed to get Zaffira to eat a bit.
It has been a little awkward between them since the kiss.
Just as she began to think about how she possibly screwed up her friendship the phone rang.
"What?!" she snapped.
"Someone's a little grumpy" Logan Wade teased.
"What do you want Logan?"
"You have 5 hours" he says his tone going from teasing to dead serious.
"I know Logan, it's not mid-night yet. I still have time" she spits back at him.
"Just saying, you aint got much time Tic-Toc princess" he says and hangs up the phone.
Zaffira lets out a frustrated grunt.
"It's okay, we'll find it" Aiden tries to assure her; even he doesn't believe what he's saying. He moves to hug her but she doesn't notice and she turns to a painting beside her; she looks behind it as Aiden recovers from his miss.
"We have to keep looking Aiden" she said not turning to look at him.
He said nothing as he starts looking again.
They look through everything, they look under everything, and they look in everything but still no luck.
"I don't get it" she says through tears leaning on the wall facing her mother's prized painting.
"He said it was here, he wrote that he hid it here, why can't we find it" she slid down the wall her bum hitting the floor. She brought her knees to her chest and put her head down crying into her legs.
Aiden sits beside her and snakes his arm around her shoulder. Just then her phone rang.
"What Logan? Haven't you done enough to me you mother-" Aiden cut her off by taking the phone from her.
"We will find your damn crystal, and we will give it to you" he said a lot calmer than he is.
"Meet us at the bridge at mid-night if you want to see Cora ever again" he said and hung up the phone.
"Aiden she's gone. There's nothing I can do now" she sobbed. He said nothing as they both sat there staring at the painting in front of them. The painting reminded her of her dad. As little as she was when he was alive she remembered he loved it. He said it was the best among all of her mother's works.
I love it too, she thought to herself.
"It's so pretty" she commented getting up and walking towards it.
What if it's behind it? She thought to herself.
"No" she whispered to herself. She then lifted the painting off the wall and placed it gently on the floor.
There was nothingbehind the wall. She picked the painting up to put to back but she didn't lift it up as carefully as she put it down so she felt something move inside. She turned the painting around and ripped it open; there was a box that fell to Zaffira's feet.
The moment Aiden saw this he walked over to Zaffira.
Both of them were nervous; thinking what if the crystal is not inside? What if they just find more diamonds, like yesterday's box?
