I kept my eyes closed, even though I'm awake. "Clove," Cato says softly. My nose twitched. "Clove," he whispered again. My eyes opened, and I saw his icy blue eyes staring into my chocolate colored eyes. I gasped. I didn't expect him to be this close to my face. He smiled.
I propped myself up on one elbow. "Cato, are we going to tribute hunting again today?" I asked hopefully. I want everyone dead as soon as possible.
"Yeah." He replied. I grinned. I looked over at Vivian, to make sure she was still alive. I shook her arm. "Hey, Vivian, we gotta eat breakfast so we have energy to kill people today." I said. She opened her eyes, and rubbed the back of her head.
"God, I wish sponsors sent hairbrushes. I swear, it's like bat crawled in my hair and made a nest." She said. I don't see her problem; she looks beautiful. Her lipstick is still good. But that's when I noticed the lipstick tube in her open backpack. I pointed to it. "Why did a sponsor send you makeup?" I asked. It's a really dumb gift, but it has to have a good reason.
"Oh. My mentor sent it hoping I would put more on, making me attractive which would get me more sponsors apparently." She said. I guess I see the point. But makeup in the arena? Makeup during training was unnecessary. She stood up. "Come on. We have to get to everyone before they wake up," she said.
I crinkled my eyebrows.
I looked up at the sky, and the sun told us it wasn't even noon yet. It wasn't even eight o'clock.
Why so early? People will still be asleep in two hours. But we have to kill. "We can go in a couple hours, I think we need to eat." Cato said. I nodded in agreement and got an apple, some beef jerky, and a bottle of water.
I sipped the water, taking small bites of my beef jerky. When I finished breakfast, Marvel was standing and pointing. "Guys, guys look! C'mon c'mon look!" He pointed into the mess of trees, and there, was a huge amount of smoke floating from the trees. I can't help but snicker at the idiot who made the fire in broad daylight, and whoever it is obviously used a ton of green stuff. I grabbed a knife that was next to me and ran with Marvel. He was carrying a spear, and Cato had a machete. We raced into the trees, searching for the fire person. I hope it's Katniss. God, I can't wait to see the look on her face when I kill her. I smirked at the though of seeing the bright red liquid spill from a gash in her face.
Then we saw the fire. The smokey, lit, empty fire. "Where the hell did he go?" Cato yelled. Marvel and I stepped back, not waiting to communicate with Cato. Cato kicked over the firewood angrily. He stomped away. "Cato! Calm down, whoever it was has to be near." I said. His nostrils flared. "No! They aren't! Let's just hike a little more." He said and stomped in front of us. Marvel and I followed, and came across another lit fire. Cato screamed in frustration.
We all heard a giant explosion noise. We all sprinted back to camp, not caring about tiredness. We reached our supplies.
Or the ashes. "What's this?" Cato asked Donny. "You do this?"
"N-no, I think someone threw rocks or something." Donny stuttered. But Cato didn't buy it. He grabbed Donny's spear and threw it onto the ground, and got him in a headlock. Cato snapped Donny's neck, and we heard the canon. Marvel, Vivian, and I poked around for things we can salvage. We only found two loaves of bread, seven apples, and one spear. Cato was holding his sword. My carry-on filled with knives is gone, but I have my vest. My vest that still has seven knives. Katniss has my eighth. I took a small piece off the bread and ate it.
"Katniss! Katniss! Katniss?" We heard a little girl scream. Marvel snapped his head to look where it came from. The forest. He got his spear, and headed off to the forest. He's finally going to kill Katniss and whoever is calling her name. Vivian and I sat by the ashes, trashing Katniss's name.
"I hate her so much." Vivian said. I bobbed my head. "I know! Me too. She thinks she's sooo superior." I said. We heard a loud canon. Katniss is dead! It was followed by another. Katniss's precious ally!
"Oh, sweet! I found those blue berries I picked," Vivian said, holding up a sack full of berries. She took one, and ate it.
Seconds later, she collapsed. On the ground. "Vivian! Oh my God! Are you okay?" I asked.
BOOM!
The canon fired. My eyes widened with worry. "Vivian! Please, open your eyes! Please!" I screamed. But she was gone. Gone forever.
I started breathing heavily, and started bawling. I tried to stop, but I can't. Vivian is dead.
The rest of the night was uneventful, Marvel had failed to return. But he's alive. I can feel it. When night falls, the anthem plays.
The first tribute is Marvel. Then Vivian. And then the girl from 11, Rue. She must've been Katniss's ally. But then the seal is shown...no Katniss. She's alive. No. Vivian and Marvel are dead, but Fire Girl is alive? No. This must be fixed, even if it means breaking someone's life.
