My alarm clock started playing from my phone. I found myself nearly being suffocated by the guy with his arm wrapped around me- of course it was just Louis. My mind just made it seem like I was actually fucking around with somebody else. Clawing him off, I got out of bed and gathered my things from the floor.
In the hallway, strangers were passed out against the walls and red cups littered the floor.
"Tough night, huh?"
I couldn't help but laugh at some random girl with half of her hair shaved off, passed out on the floor. She'd hate herself in a few hours.
I made my way up the stairs to the third floor and found my bedroom. Of course nobody was inside. These girls were smart enough, drunk or not, to not bring strangers into my room.
My phone rang with a message from my aunt. Shit! I forgot that I was supposed to meet her for breakfast this morning.
Running into the bathroom, I dragged a girl out and closed the door for some privacy. Stepping in the hot water felt good, but my head was banging with an awful hangover.
Getting out, I towel dried my hair.
On top of all of this, we were starting Rush Week. Freshman girls would come in, thinking they could just show up and run the place. Of course, that's what I did, but I guess you could say I was an exception.
Wrapping a towel around myself, I quickly walked down the hall to my bedroom.
I found some denim shorts and one of my hundred Delta Nu shirts. I grabbed my phone and ran downstairs to the garage. Finding my car, I got in quickly and made my way to my aunt's house.
Traffic was nonexistent and I found myself silently humming along to the Lorde lyrics playing through my speakers. As I pulled up to my aunt's, I noticed other cars parked outside. She must've invited some friends over like she usually does.
Walking up to the front door, I didn't even ring the bell. I'm sure the loud ring would've caused my head to explode. Inside, I could hear chatter from the kitchen.
"I think that's her! You'll love her! Shes such a sweetheart. Holly, honey, is that you?"
My aunt appeared from around the corner, a bit of flour on her vintage t-shirt. I smiled and tried to hide the pain of my headache.
"You look great!"
I laughed at her ironic statement as she wrapped her arms around me. Living on the same campus, you'd think we would see each other more often.
"It sounds like you have guests this morning..." I began to trail off.
"Oh, yes! Just my neighbor and her sister and nephew!"
I followed her into the kitchen. At first I only saw two dark-haired women smiling at the kitchen table. They both stood up to hug me.
"It's so nice to meet you, Holly! Your aunt has been telling us a lot about you."
"Has she now?" I joked.
I turned to look at my aunt and made eye contact with a boy standing in the corner. My jaw must have dropped, but I recomposed myself quickly. A tall lanky, yet muscular boy stood in the corner of the room, looking out the window.
"Oh, hi."
"Hi..." He mumbled under his breath, an accent think in his speech.
He had tattoos all up his arms and on his neck. Piercings were seen on his eyebrow and lip. I found myself staring and had to pull my eyes away from him. How could someone do that to themselves so casually?
"I think you've met Sarah before, she lives right next door. This is her sister Anne, and that's Harry, her son."
"Pleasure is all mine," Anne said with a smile. I smiled back and looked over at Harry again.
"Umm, this might be weird, but have we met before?"
"No," he said sternly before grabbing a cup of coffee and moving back over to him mom.
We all sat around my aunt's table and began eating. I was thankful to my aunt for keeping the conversation lively and not letting it drop to an awkward low. I could only muster up basic speech this morning and I was not up for an intellectual conversations right now.
"Rush starts today, doesn't it?" My aunt piped up, obviously speaking to me.
I put down my glass of juice and nodded.
"Yeah, that's where I'm headed after this."
"Harry is attending MHU this year as well! Anne and Harry just moved here from England so he could go."
"That's really cool."
I tried to sound interested, but I could only hear so much through the throbbing against my skull. Anne flashed me a big smile as she took a sip of her coffee.
I smiled at Anne and glanced at Harry, but he wasn't looking up at anyone.
I scraped my fork along the rim of my plate, but the sound sent sharp chills up my spine.
"Are you going to try and get a bid from any fraternities?" I asked him, not even expecting him to respond.
He looked up at me and I was almost taken aback by the bright blue color of his eyes, which were a sharp contrast to the dark clothing he wore.
"No," was all he replied before going back to his plate, which he hadn't touched.
"Alright then..." I couldn't help but be slightly offended. His answer was so harsh and I was only trying to be nice to him. Pledging Greek was talked badly of my many people, but it was a good way to make lasting relationships and to have fun during college. Good luck making any friends...
Standing up, I excused myself.
"It was really nice meeting you all. Maybe we can do this again," I said to try and please my aunt, though the idea of waking up early again didn't really please me.
I gave my aunt another quick hug, then waved to Sarah, Anne, and Harry.
"Maybe I'll see you around campus," I said in a final attempt to be nice toward Harry. Of course, he never looked up at me. Didn't give me a second thought.
What was wrong with him?
Arriving back at the sorority house, I went inside to find the house spotless. No signs of a party the night before and all the random strangers had left.
Walking to the living room, all the other girls were standing around and talking. I found Serena and Annabelle standing in front of them. When they saw me, they exhaled in relief and motioned for me to quickly come over.
"Where the fuck have you been? Girls are already arriving outside!"
"Chill out. If they really want to join, they can be patient for two seconds."
I recomposed myself, annoyed that they had snapped at me like that, and turned to face the girls in front of me, putting on one of my large fake-ass smiles.
"Alright ladies, today is a big day for Delta Nu. Over the next few days, we will be recruiting ten new sisters to join our family. Remember, we don't want girls who will let the label go to their head. After all, we know how much it means to be a true Delta Nu sister."
Everyone nodded, almost in unison.
"Okay, ladies. Now let's get to work."
Serena, Annabelle, and I went over to answer the door. Everyone huddled around us and as I swung open the door, we put on our biggest smiles, flashing our Delta Nu signs.
"Welcome to Delta Nu 2013!"
(Sorry this wasn't the most exciting chapter, but I promise Harry will come in more! I'm still introducing things, but you'll really get a sense of his character in the next two chapters! Thanks for reading! Vote and Comment!)
