"You have a beautiful baby girl,” the midwife said as she brought over my beautiful new baby. I couldn't have loved her more. She looked up at me and smiled. I knew then that I would protect her from harm.

"What's her name Amalia?" asked my husband George King.

"Scarlet, Scarlet Minna." I said as I gazed at my gorgeous little girl. Little did I know just how she would grow.

By the time Scarlet was one she could walk, talk, dance and sing. She wasn't like the other children. She was smarter, not just a pretty face. I knew then that we had passed it on to her, as much as we didn't want to, so together George and I decided to raise her so that she knew nothing of that life and we prayed she would never have to encounter anything like we have. I could remember my childhood. Always knowing and always scared, I didn’t want that for my darling angel. So the three of us went into hiding. Moving around and never allowing people close enough to notice the differences. Well it wasn’t until she was five that we had realised that they knew of her existence and her gifts. It was becoming dangerous for her, for all of us.

It was hard for us to make the next decision. We ran to a remote island that was charmed so that nobody, not even the counsel, would be able to see. For a while it was nice and peaceful. But that’s how it is before a storm.
