It's counties. You've been waiting the entire track season to run at counties, since you're the best at the 400 meter run. You weren't nervous most of the day. And then you arrived at the meet. You saw as other schools and towns flooded into the event. You started freaking out. You search for your friend, Sam, who's also running the 400 with you. You see she's broken down into tears from nervous tensions, which doesn't help you. Your best friend, BF/N sees you and tries to calm you down, but in the end nothing works.
"BF/N this is hopeless! I'm too nervous to think!" You yell as you put your head down in your hands.
"I have just the thing." She says before leaving to go find someone. You stay there, trying to clear your mind until you see your enemy from your rival school, E/N.
"I hope you're prepared to lose at the 400 meter race. I've got this in the bag." She laughs at you as she walks by. That made you snap from nervous tensions. You run into the bathroom and start crying from being nervous.
"I just saw her run in." You her your best friend say from the distance. You hear a knock on the stall you're in.
"Y/N?" You hear a soft, gentle voice ask.
"C/N." You say, opening the door and hugging C/N. C/N has always been there for you, and right now you needed C/N more than anything.
"You've got this in the bag! Ignore E/N, she's nothing to you. You don't need anyone's approval to know you're the best, Y/N!" C/N says, looking you in the eye.
"I can't do this! I can't!" You cry, wiping tears away, but more tears end up flooding down.
"Y/N! Listen to me right now! E/N is nothing to you! No one is as good as you! You are the best 400 runner on this team, and I'd bet my life the best 400 runner here today! You have the most heart inside of you than anyone I've ever met! You have..." As you watch C/N get riled up on your behalf and pouring their heart out into how good you are, you start to smile. "... And just because you're the best runner on the team, doesn't mean that's the only reason I have faith in you, Y/N! I like you! A lot!"
"Y-You what?" You ask with a smile.
"All boys and girls running the 400 meter sprint, please report to the official." The speaker says.
"We'll talk later." C/N says with a smile before giving you a hug. You jog out to the official with Sam, and then the nervous tension finally hits you. This is your final stand. Your final chance. E/N smirks at you as you all line up.
"Runners, take your mark!" The official says, raising one hand. You get down into the first position. "Runners, set!" He yells, raising the gun into the air. You get ready and then the official fires the blank. You start off in first, as you always do. On the first straight away, you know you're ahead. Then when you go around the bend, E/N is right next to you. On the last final sprint, you and E/N sprint as hard as you ever have in your life.
"Y/N! I believe in you! Push through it! Push!" You here C/N scream. You sprint faster than you thought you ever could and crossed the finish line.
"Y/N, first place, 1:01. E/N, second place, 1:07." As soon as the official says that, you are ecstatic. You're asked to stay on the center of the track closest to the bleachers. The official stands next to you with a microphone.
"What is this?" You ask him.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Here at counties, our previous record was 1:03. Y/N has beaten the county record and is now the new counties champion at the 400 meter dash!" He announces through the microphone, everyone screaming for you. You see C/N jumping over the fence and running up to you. You run up to C/N and give the biggest hug. C/N picks you up and spins you around before putting you down and giving you a kiss.
"Be mine, champ." C/N says with a smile. You nod with a smile before kissing C/N again.
