"Come now dear, we shall be departing soon." Father's words echoed in Kira's ears. She blinks twice, and realizes that she has been staring at the cloudless sapphire sky.
She turns to their carriage, it was dark and plain, with two red curtained windows at each side. Two black horses at its front neighed in excitement to travel. The wheels are muddy and filthy.
Kira scrunch her nose in a bit of disgust. "Father, why did you have to borrow Mr. Bugust's carriage? We could just have bought a new one. Didn't you look at it? It's filthy, and bleak too."
"Oh, Kira, don't be rude." Mother looks at her wearily, "You know your papa doesn't have money that much."
"But it's at the same price," Kira couldn't help complaining, she knows how Mr. Bogust could take so much from them for just borrowing a carriage. They should have just bought a new one.
"Kira, Mira, it's time to go, what's done is done, deal with your problem later." Father interrupts what mother is about to say and signals Kira to enter first.
She takes a last glance at their town gate, the town where she grew up. Her home. Tears welled up in her eyes when she realized she was leaving it. She blinks and shakes off her tears. She musn't show her tears, her weakness. She has to be strong.
"Tch." In frustration, she steps inside the dark carriage, knowing she'll never see her hometown, ever again.
