He didn't want to be here. At a party. Making merry like all was well. Going to Janet's party had been a bad idea, he had been miserable all through and had even managed to alienate Janet. Now he was at a function being held by his company for their foreign investors from China and Spain. They were people he did not care for. All money grubbing individuals, filthy rich, filitily ugly. They were rich as they were ugly. Both inside and out. One of them was headed his was, He did not need this now. He put a smile on his face, it was business afterall.
"Mr Ronald, good to see you" he held out his hand for a quick shake.
"Ah yes, Mr tawio, it's good to see you too. He wasn't Spanish though, he was a Swede and he was ruthless when it came to business. His accent was also pretty evident and heavy, which made talking to him hard.
"How are you liking the festivities"
"You, Nigerians know how to throw a good party. I'm loving it"
A fake laugh, then, "I would hope so, we enjoy your business"
"Of course",putting a cigar in his mouth, some else had caught his attention from across the room. "See you then, Tawio. I think I spot an old friend" A nod of the head and a pat on the back and he was gone.
There was no need for him to be here, his father and older brother were both in attendance, they could handle this lot. He was going home. First he had to tell his dad.
On his way he spotted a familiar face, "What Wha......", He was confused, "Ada? He blinked furiously and suddenly she was gone, like she wasn't there at all. In truth she never was, He was seeing her now like his nightmares weren't enough. Forget his dad, he was going home now.Inform my father I've left. Tell him I have a headache.
He texted his assistant.
Hospital
"Heard you had a rough day, yesterday, how are you" she was tired, she looked it too but she was effortlessly beautiful at the same time. Her skin was glowing. She'd put on some eyeliner and her hair was in a bun. She was perfect.
"Good, I have to be in court tomorrow"
"And how are we feeling about that" Giving a tired and sarcastic laugh.
"Drained, emotionally and physically. I don't know how much longer I can hold it together, I'm coming loose"
"I can imagine it's hard", he put his hands on hers for a quick pat, To his surprise she laced their fingers together. It was crossing a boundary but he liked the connection.
"Umm, Rita d...."
"What, let me have this doc, you're my only friend now"
"Of course", Clearing his throat he continued "do you have anything to say to me, or want to share today"
"Not really, I've not rememberd anything. Can I ask you something?
"Anything",their hands were still together
"My drugs always seem to muddle my brain. It's like I'm aware of my surroundings but can't think, why is that, why
would you prescribe drugs that do that to me"
"What are you talking about. I haven't prescribed drugs in the eight months you've been here"
"Wha...."
"I mean you aren't mentally sick, why would I. Have you been taking drugs, whose been giving them to you"
"The orderlys, who else"
"You mean Paul, the one who takes you to your room?"
"No, I mean Tunji and Bolaji. They've given me drugs since I've been here".She was worried now, someone has gone out of their way to make sure she didn't remember even going as far as paying orderlys to drug her.
"I'm going to have to look into this, obviously something and someone is at play here". He frowned.
"I'm being poisoned, someone is purposefully trying to hurt me to make sure I don't remember"She was shaking now. The look on her face said she was scared. He took her into his arms, hugging her. This was the most they had ever come into contact with each other. They were so close he could smell the coco butter on her skin. It was strange at first but they eventually became comfortable and she calmed down.
"Why would someone do this"
"I don't know but I promise to look into it, those two will be held accountable"
"Not if I kill those two losers first" She seethed, shaking mildly.
"Don't do anything drastic", he warned, "I mean it"
"I won't. I'm just scared and angry. I might act out I don't know."
"I'll handle it. This is officially hospital business might even have to involve the police, just go to court tomorrow for your hearing, leave it to me" He held her face up to his.
"Sure" her eyes held a warmth as she stared at him. They moved to his lips. There was an obvious tension between the both of them, the sexual kind and her leaning towards him proved it. He wanted to kiss her, badly but he was her doctor and he jumped back at the last minute remembering their positions.
"Um.....er... you should probably leave" He was nervous and adjusting his tie gave him something to do.
"Err...yep...sure, call the orderly?"
"He's on his way, I'll see you next week"
The orderly was already here and was escorting her out of the room. They shared one last look and she was gone.A/N
