I walked beside C while we walked to the show ground. My feet already hurt from the damn high heels!
"My feet hurt." I complain.
"Do you want to take your shoes off until we get there?" He asks.
"Yes please." I answer.
C bends down a gestures for me to lift my foot. I do as he asks and hold on to C's shoulder to keep balance.
I think this is the closest we've ever been.
"Other foot." He commands.
I life my other foot, still balancing on his shoulder. He finishes taking them both of and stands back up straight.
"All better." He smiles while handing me the high heels.
"Thanks." I return the smile.
"Anytime." He grins.
I continue walking in the direction we were headed since I didn't really know the way nor did I want to. C caught up to me and held my hand. It literally felt like someone just set a cannon of butterflies off in my stomach. I couldn't really tell if it was from the close contact with C or my nerves getting the best of me.
I didn't really know what to say. I was afraid if I said anything like 'I'm nervous' he's gonna give me a big lecture on how he's going to protect me. I'll just keep my mouth shut for now.
We approached a big dome building with red and white strips cascading the large tent. The smell of buttery popcorn hit my nose immediately. 'Circus food.' I thought.
C lead me backstage and I put on my heels.
"Good luck." He whispers to me in my ear.
"I'll need it." I mutter back. He just smiles.
I check myself in the mirror one last time before I see someone standing behind me in the corner of my eye. I turn around to see a clown; and not the fun and nice type. The creepy and terrifying type.
"U-Uh h-h-hi." I say nervously.
"Show time." He says in a deep, scary voice.
"Y-yep. S-sure." I stutter with nervousness.
I follow behind the clown as the presenter says "Ladies and Gentleman, we hope you enjoy the show!"
Before I walk out, I throw C a quick smile shortly before walking out on stage. The clown gestures me to stand on a platform located centre stage. I do as he commands and soon find myself being lifted in the air by the platform.
Did these guys know about my fear of heights? They probably didn't care anyway.
Soon I was extremely high in the air. Way too high for my liking. Then the presenter comes out with a microphone. There were trapeze artists swinging in the air around me, jugglers juggling on the ground below me circling my platform like sharks, People walking across the tight rope behind me and the crowd. All eyes on me.
I started breathing heavy from the attention and my fear of heights. It wasn't like there was railing or anything for my safety. All that was preventing me from falling to my death (probably) was the stiffness in my body right now.
Then the presenter spoke. "Ladies and Gentleman, please welcome our guest, Hilary."
The crowd claps and cheers.
"So, Hilary is going to show us some tricks tonight. When you're ready, Hilary!" The presenter shouts.
What?! Tricks?! No no no no no no no.
Then a trapeze artist comes flying at me, grabbing hold of my leg in one swift movement.
"Let go of me!" I shout. He giggles.
"What the hell? Let go!" I shout once more.
Seconds later I'm swung into the air, landing on a net. The crowd cheers.
"Brilliant. Now, who wants to see this beautiful girl get sawed in half?!" The presenter asks.
I stood beside the presenter nervously.
"Sawed in half? I don't think I can do that..." I whisper to the presenter.
"Sure you can! Here, I'll walk you over there." The presenter shoots the crowd a wink.
I see the box I'm meant to be sawed in half in.
"Is this safe?" I ask the magician.
"Of course." He whispers. He kind of looks like C...
"C?" I ask quietly. He smiles.
"Oh yeah. Hey." He laughs. "Don't worry, you not actually being sawed in half, ok?" He reassures me.
"Ok." I reply.
Then C begins 'sawing' me in half.
